Launch problem

mfriedmanny

Question

 Got Creator 8.2 XE as software with purchase of a Mad Dog external drive. No problems during installation. Go to launch the Home icon and the MS "encountered a problem, must close" message appears. The program does not launch. Navigate to the other programs (DVD, Photo, etc.) and they launch fine. MAd Dog says they've seen this if you have Internet Explorer 7 beta - but I have full version. Any guidance would be appreciated ASAP.

Answer not in knowledge base :) . Online chat with customer service to get to tech support didn't help :D . Call to tech support after 2 days of trying to get through, they want to charge $35 - which I could see if there was a technical issue, other than initially trying to install the product :D .

I am having the exact same problem ! I'm running IE 6, so the IE 7 Beta theory doesn't work. I know some Dell systems have a problem running Roxio software, but mine is a few years old and the documented problem is with systems manufactured after Jan 2006.

If you slide the Microsoft "encountered a problem" window to the side, you can use all the functions of Creator with no problem.

VERY frustrating !

Couple of things worth trying

IE7 is a well-known problem - but so also is Wndows Media Player 11 - uninstall that if it's there

Update your drivers - go to the graphic card maker's website and get the latest ones from there (MS and Dell drivers tend to be behind quite a bit)

Install the latest DirectX 9.0c (December issue)

Defrag the hard drive - also install and run adaware se and/or spybot s&d to clean out any malware that may be running in the background

You have an OEM version of EMC 8. OEM support is NOT provided by Roxio - it's down to the supplier as they requested a modified version to their specification and THEY are responsible for support.

You might try rolling back to IE 6.
