ellentk
I'm using ECDC 5.3.5. I have a CD-R drive and a CD-RW drive. When trying to copy a data disc In the Disc Copier module, the box to copy to my hard drive first is grayed out. Is this feature disabled in 5.3.5? Also, the option to create a HD image is sometimes grayed out in the basic module. It happens occasionally when I want to copy from a home-made (as opposed to a commercial) disc. I was trying to make a copy of some pdf files on a disk a friend burned. I was able to copy the files to my hard drive using Windows Explorer and then burn them to a cd. But the option to make a hd image was grayed out in the basic ECDC module whether the source disc was in my CD-R or CD-RW. In addition, when I put the disc in my cd-rw drive, the program kept asking me if I wanted to overwrite files that were already on the disc. Shouldn't ECDC be smart enough to give users the opportunity to make a hd image and then insert a blank disc? Ellen

Sorry for posting the first message twice, I tried to erase it, but couldn't.

Ellen That bit makes me think you formatted the disc and have used DirectCD In general, unless you REALLY want to use packet writing (about the most successful way to make sure you lose all your data), you NEVER format a disc. Take one off the spindle, put it in and write to that. What I doi normally is to set up the files I want to write in a temporary folder, then add them to CD Creator and from that burn to image. Then I put in the blank and open the image file I made with Disc Copier
ellentk
Help all the way from Belfast, Ireland! Wow! I love the interent. Thanks for telling me about directcd. I never suspected that. I'm not sure how my friend formatted the disc, but I'll ask her when she gets back from vacation. I burned my copy using ECDC disc at once. Thanks too for telling me about the dangers of formating. Meanwhile, I checked the source disc with "disc info" in ECDC and it said "Data Mode 1 or Audio CD." And that cd is an 80 minute audio. Then I checked the copy I finally burned on a data cd from the copy I put on my hard drive and it said "Data Mode 2xA CD." From what I read about this, Mode 2 has less error correction but can be read in older drives. As my CD-R is pretty old, I that's good for me. gi7omy
Glad to help - your friend seems to have fallen into the old trap of assuming that CD = great big floppy therefore format big floppy first Don't work like that
