Can't open .avi file

baddvd

Question

I just downloaded the software and am trying to burn a DVD of a .avi file that I had already saved from windows movie maker on my computer. I go to myDVD and click on add new movie and it pops up a file screen. I find the file and click on it and it just goes back to the black screen. What is the problem?

Please post your computer specs especially your video card information and the number of the current driver for it. Make sure you have the latest version of Microsoft's DirectX 9c. Usually problems like this are caused by outdated video drivers. Try this, open MyDVD and go to tools> options> and select software in the screen that opens. Try adding that avi again; what happens?

These might be dumb questions but do you go to microsoft website and downlad DirectX 9c from there? How do you get the video card information from my computer? Also, I only have 256 Ram, will that cause me problems. I can open the .avi file in the CineMagic Assistant and it will play but when I go to burn that's when I get ablolutely no response when clicking on the file to add and just goes to black screen.

Your video drivers are out of date and you don't have the latest version of DirectX. That is why you are not seeing the toolbars.

Get DirectX 9c here. (Click this link)

Go to Windows> My computer> Right Click to get properties> Select Hardware> Device Manager> click the plus next to display adapter. Post what you find there and someone will help you find the updates.

To get more information about your computer, go to Belarc Advisor and download/run that program. What is your CPU speed? Post the information you find there about your hardware and add it to your signature by going to MyControls at the top of this page. Look at what others post to get an example.

The 256 RAM will make it be slow but it should work. My old laptop will run the program; just not very fast.

Did you try setting your Video Wave or My DVD to run in software mode?

That's video built onto your mother board and it doesn't support directx functionality. So even installing the latest version of directx (which you should) isn't going to solve your problem (that chipset didn't work right even in version 7/7.5 of EMC). You'll have to get a video card that supports directx9 if you want to use any of the video related functions of the program.

Its an intel celeron prcessor, 800 MHz. Display adaptor is Intel 82810 and it said it could not find more up to date drivers.

What do you mean "that's video built onto your mother board"? Are you saying from what I told you my mother board doesn't have what it needs and I will have to buy another one?

Since you stated in your first post that you "just downloaded" the product (in the last few days I'll guess), that must mean you purchased either one of the MyDVD 8 products or the Videowave 8 product (unless you purchased something else, just guessing since you posted in the version 8 area). If it's actually some other product/version, you should tell us what you actually have. In any case, your system doesn't meet the minimum requirements for the software. Here is a link to the ones for MyDVD 8.

If it isn't a laptop, you don't need a new motherboard - just a PCI or AGP graphics card that will plug into one of the slots on the board.

Disable the onboard graphics at reboot (in BIOS) and then update the drivers after the system is running.

The Intel chipset you have on the motherboard has a very limited functionality and just can't cope.

Also, 800 MHz CPU is just about scraping in for operating the suite - rendering even with an updated video card will be extremely slow
