How stable is v9 vs. v8

DracIsBack

Question

I'm actually fairly new to Easy Media Creator. I started with version 8 because it had so many features I was intested in. What I found was that when the product worked, it worked very well. The problem was, frankly, that it was also about the most unreliable application I've used in twenty years of computing. Probably every second time I used it, it would crash or freeze or fail in some other respect. There were never any updates that improved its stability, which was annoying. The other gripe was that it was very, very, very agonizingly slow at times ... even on my reasonably new system.

So Roxio has been sending me all kinds of "upgrade" now emails. And despite my bad experience with 8, I'd consider it if 9 did a lot of work to improve stability and performance.

So that begs the question ... has it?

Post you system specs here. If you had problems in EMC 8, EMC 9 isn't going to run any better for you.

Nope.

We have similar stories. I started with EMC 7. It had all the features I wanted and when it was in a groove (that's the only way to put it) the product produced wonderful results. When it was cranky, just forget it for that day and try again later.

I upgraded to EMC 9 two months ago. I still haven't gotten it into a groove, but it occasionally works. When it isn't asking me to register for the 10th time it has made me some nice DVDs of family events and vacations from photos and miniDVs.

It's such a pity that a feature rich application is burdened by such bundles of bugs and with so few patches. In short, upgrade if you want some of the new features - but your frustration level will be about the same.

One point we keep trying to drive home (and it's in posts all over the place) is that for the program to work properly, it really NEEDS good graphics and the latest drivers - to be obtained from the graphics maker's website - NOT from MS or whoever assembled the computer (these are always well out of date)

Also - the recommended system specs are there for a good reason - that's what you NEED to get the thing to work - trying to get EMC8 or 9 to run on an 800 MHz Celeron with onboard graphics isn't going to get you very far.

If your machine has the updated drivers and meets the specs - tell us what the problems are (don't forget to post the specs and [program version along with a reasonably detailed description of the fault) and we'll try to help

Unfortunately, most of us failed mind-reading 101 and unless we get told - we don't know what's happening :)

I haven't had too many problems with EMC9. EMC8 caused me problems when I would try to render files to create DVD's. I'd only be successful 3 out of 10 times. Now with EMC9, I've been 100% successful with rendering and burning DVD's. For my next test, I will try to render a movie that caused EMC8 to crash.

My only reason for upgrading to 8 to begin with was because I thought I would be able to do transitions on musical disc. Which you can if you are doing Wav files, you can not do it for mp3 disc. And the marketing did not disclose this. You still can not do transitions with EMC9. The online review I've read is that EMC9 is stable and EMC8 was full of bugs.

EMC9 also has a lot of menu background where EMC8 only had one.

Also, I did upgrade my graphics card from ati x300 to ati 1300xt. I don't know if that made a difference.
