ATI TV Wonder Compatability

wjh

Question

Early Christmas Eve morning I installed Easy Media Creator 9.0 and immediately lost use of my TV Wonder Pro PCI card's TV capabilities. The compatability issues started with a dll in the Multimedia Center exe file. I've spent the entire day uninstalling both ATI and EMC and reinstalling, updating where possible to no avail. The only time I successfully used the TV card (I have a VCR connected to my computer through which I view cable programs) was when I had completely uninstalled EMC and reinstalled from the original ATI CD. Any suggestions since the card is suppose to work with EMC? Thanks.

Thanks for letting us know. We can now advise others to do the same.

Unfortunately the same process didn't worked for me. I'm beginning to lose count of my uninstalls and installs exactly the way ATI directs. I had a response back from ATI but I've had to send another support ticket telling them I can't even get my TV player to initialize. I am now in the process of uninstalling EMC9, again, and seeing what happens with the TV player. If it still doesn't work, I may try and earlier version of the Multimedia Center and see if one of them works with EMC9. Maybe I'll hear from Roxio since I sent in a support request.

Also thought I'd mentioned my computer set up - I have a Gateway 700X, 2.8GHZ Pentium 4 processor, 1G memory, 160 Sata Hard Drive, 128mb NVidia GeFOrce4 TI4200 Graphics card, and Audigy II sound card. My system more than meets the needs of both Roxio and ATI.

"I installed Easy Media Creator 9.0 and immediately lost use of my TV Wonder Pro PCI card's TV capabilities. "

I experienced the same thing with my PCIe X600 All-In-Wonder. I've posted messages everywhere about this looking for clues with no success. Hopefully, ATI and Sonic are listening to the chatter and working to solve this frustrating problem.

My card is a TV Wonder Pro Philips1236MK3. I have DAO 3.5 installed from ATI. Since the last reinstall I have the popup box, that comes up after the TV starts and there is a slight freeze, with the following message:

ATIMMC.EXE has encountered a problem..... More information leads to ModName conexc.dll which leads to information of greater detail in an appcompatability*.txt file. If I move the popup box fairly off screen, at least this time I can still watch my TV which was not possible before. I am running an earlier release of the multimedia center hesitant to try again the more recent update offered on ATI's site which compromised my situation even more previously.

conexc.dll is an ATI file and there have been a lot of reports of problems as you describe

In most cases it's down to a codec - a lot of people have had to uninstall ogg-vorbis to get rid of the error

However, having said that there is a conexc.dll trojan running round in the wild - for details see:

Also if you check on the ATI Rage forum there is a very long thread on this:

I think it was CompUSA or Best Buy that has a nice Geforce 6600 w/256MB for only $69. It might have been PCI express though. Mostly likely your mobo has AGP 4x or 8X. Shop around. There are usually video card deals in the $50-80 range that would work fine.

I wanted to report back I purchased an ATI Radeon 9550 for $79 from Gateway. I successfully installed the video card and got the TV card working. I installed EMC9 and this time the atimmc.exe caused a problem with aticore.dll and it killed the TV. Yet the TV capture card worked in EMC9's Capture Video module. I used go back and put my system back to the point of successful graphics installation but the error persisted. I uninstalled the ATI multimedia center, reinstalled it and updated the TV card drivers. Success. Now I am sitting with EMC8 installed and I'm ready to contact customer service and ask for a refund on my download of EMC9. I am hesitant to try another installation. Any suggestions before I do? You've been most helpful!

Well I've been all over the web with google searches and reading forum posts for the past few days and located all kinds of information about the inherent problems of my ATI TV Wonder Pro and atimmc.exe and conexc.dll. What the connection with EMC9 is I am at a complete loss. I've checked codecs, upgraded Windows Movie Player, verified the latest video card drivers, and tried a host of possible ideas to get rid of the atimmc.exe error box to no avail. At least I now know that I am not alone with my problem but it sure would be nice if ATI would resolve the ongoing issues. And I wish I could resolve the EMC/ATI conflict. I'll have to continue moving the error window off the screen and at least be able to watch TV.

I've now found a problem within EMC. I captured a video from a Canon ZR700 successfully and went to edit it in Videowave. I dropped the different scenes on to the storyboard but when you go to view the vide, it freezes and only sound can be heard. The whole module stays frozen and has to be forced closed. Now the question is is it connected to ATI or is it an EMC problem. Any ideas?

Thanks for the help so far.

I experienced the same thing with my PCIe X600 All-In-Wonder.

I dove into this problem again and solved it!

I uninstalled all of the ATI software and expunged it all from the registry just like the ATI install procedure instructs and re-installed the latest version (Dec 06) and everything now works as it should. I once again can use the MMC TV function and video capture in Roxio works too!

Sounds like the same problem I have been having with my TV Wonder.

Tried updating to new TV drivers to no avail either. All started after installing EMC9. If anyone has any answers it would be appreciated - so I can get my TV tuner back up and running .

It appears to be a problem in the Media Center that EMC9 interferes with.

Thanks,

George

Sorry but your video card does NOT meet minimum Roxio requirements. A quick search on the net shows the Geforce 4 TI4200 was designed for DirectX 8 and was released sometime early 2002. EMC 9 requires a video card that supports DirectX 9.

Wow, thanks for the research. Now I have to decide what to upgrade to as I see my problem with my TV card and Roxio probably go hand in hand with the age of my video card. Usually by now when my computers reach 3 years in age I'm off to buy new but I've been satisfied with my current machine. Now it is a case of what video card to look into so it can go for a bit longer until I buy new and pass it on to my daughter.
