marlinsinger
Looks like they are already finding quite a few vulnerabilities in Vista. http://www.nytimes.com/2006/12/25/technolo...agewanted=print
gi7omy
A bit behind Marlin (maybe the NY Times doesn't do a lot of research) "...On Saturday, Nicole Miller, a Microsoft spokeswoman, said the company was also investigating the reported browser flaw and that it was not aware of any attacks attempting to use the vulnerability...." Check my post from the 13th http://forums.support.roxio.com/index.php?showtopic=13872 Sophos reported that back in November and MS are just getting on to it now (well - that could be fast for them - they've been known to sit on vulnerabilities for 6 months)
lynn98109
I've had a few casual conversations about security with my software guru, just as an abstract subject. She was in charge of keeping the mainframe of a major US University up and running for 10 years. So, thqt is my source for these comments. It is not realistic to make a computer completely impervious UNLESS you want to run the risk of being unable to get back into it if someone goofs. One example that was given was a hospital that was working on a Y2K patch. I forget what mistake was made in checking it, but not even the compuer manufacturer could access the data after that. Now, that is a SECURE set-up, not to be facitious, but to point out why it is normally a bit less secure than that. To keep hackers out of the system she was responsible for, she had a mid-range security set-up. It was enough to keep out casual hackers, but, as she put it, not secure enough to be 'ineresting' to the really serious hackers. Microsoft is trying to be secure enough to be 'interesting' to those serious hackers. I think we can expect many more reports about successful hacks. I think in many cases, these are in addition to what was found earlier.
