REDWAGON
If you bring up the EMC 7 home page and click on "Extras & Utilities" and then click on "Disc & Device Utility", does the drive show up there ?? Also if you check in "My Computer" and click on "hardware" then on "Device manager", does the drive show tehre and when you click on the drive and then "properties", what doies it show there ? Another place to check for possible solution--http://kb.roxio.com/content/kb/creator/000040CR Frank...

When I checked in Extras & Utilities and then Disc & Device Utility, I got a message that said........"Missing basic componet (could not load some drivers". I've checked in Device Manger and everthing shows up there and that "the device is working properly". Sure is puzzling why I was able to burn a disc before and now I can't. Thanks for any help. grandpabruce
Again, I thank you for you response. I think I may have misunderstood your suggestion. Every time I've done a msconfig I get a System Configuration Utility window. It says........ "You have used System Conf. Utility to make changes to the way Win. starts"......... also.......... "System Conf. Utility is currently in Diagnostic or Selective Startup mode", etc. The only thing to check is "Don't show this message or launch the System Conf. Utility when Windows start". I alway have checked this. Nothing esle pops up after I check that box. Now what I have showing in my Startup is........ Updreg, AHQInit, Whfud, WKuFind, ccApp, SM1BG, Weather, and msmsgs. Not sure this is what you suggested I do or if this was the info you asked for. Thanks, Becky That is the popup I was talking about, Becky. In the Startup, start unchecking, one at a time, and reboot. I do have the ccApp running in mine, but none of the others that you have checked. I would start by unchecking the Weather Channel one that you have in there, and msmsgs.
Becky
Check and see if IE 7 is installed on your computer. If it is, EMC 7 and 7.5 won't work. IE 7 is not on my computer. I had heard it Roxio would not work with it so I did not get it.
Becky
Ok, try this, if there is any HP junk running at startup. Go to Start/Run and type in msconfig. When the next screen comes up, click on Startup and uncheck anything to do with HP, click on Apply, then OK, and reboot. Put a check in the box in the lower left corner of the popup you see, when you get back into Windows. List what is in that Startup group. I thought I got rid of all HP junk at startup but found a couple left. Got rid of those. When I did a reboot, I did not see a popup in lower left corner to put a check in. Anyway, I still have "no burner present" showing when trying to burn a slide show. Thanks again for your help. Becky
REDWAGON
I forgot about that Bruce, but that may very well be the problem. If not, Based on the messgae you can't load some drivers, you might want to bring up that drive in Device manager and right click on "Properties", then click on the "Driver" (tab) and then try clicking on the "Roll Back Driver" to see if that might help. Becky
So based on your latest reply Becky, your scanner was the one that somehow caused the problem, I assume. If you know what exactly it ws that caused the problem post back and give some details. That's how we all learn and very possibly someone down the line will have a similar problem and your soloution would probably help. What model scanner was it ? And what did you do to get it to run and how if you know, did it interfere with the drive not being seen ? Frank... The new scanner is an HP Scanjet 4850. I had a lot of problems getting it to work and was in touch with people from HP through emails. Lots of suggestions they gave me didn't seem to work. I cannot tell you what they were but some changes were suggested and the emailing went on for several days. I then took the scanner to a shop where it started working and has been since. I have no idea how it may have interferred with the drive not beeing seen in Roxio. When I put EM7 on my computer, I had a lot of problems getting it to work. I even ended up with a new hard drive to solve any conflicts. And then it worked until lately. Why is Roxio so tempermental???? The features in EM7 are great for my needs WHEN IT WORKS. Thanks for your help!!!! Becky
Becky
I have no clue why you did not get a popup screen as soon as your computer booted up again. Try it again. I still did not get the popup window you referred to. This problem is making me pull my hair out. I'm about ready to get rid of Roxio. Do you or anyone know of any similiar programs??? Thanks again. "No drive is present" is what I keep getting when I try to burn. It's very frustrating!!!
lynn98109
So - is there any change you have made to your hardware or software recently - say, between when this worked and when it didn't? Maybe it would've been better to start with gathering information, but admittedly, after a while one discovers certain answers seem to work in a lot of cases, and just fires the answers first (with crossed fingers) Lynn

If you do a msconfig, then reboot, and you don't get that popup screen saying you are doing a Selective Startup, then you have other issues that need to be resolved. Guest ml
You might try a Windows Add Remove Programs\ EMC 7\ Change\ REPAIR. It's possible that one of the files or settings has become damaged.

Guest ml
When you go into Start\ My Computer, can you see the DVD RW drive installed? Do you have any other DVD burning software installed on your computer and can that software 'see' the burner? Since you're getting the message that some driver components are missing, my guess would be that either the HP software or the technician you were working with did something that uninstalled or corrupted a file the EMC7 sofware needs. Do you know the make and model of that DVD burner? If the burner came with the computer, I'd suggest that you go to the website of the computer manufacturer and download the 'Drivers' for that burner. Then I'd uninstall it under Windows and reinstall it using the drivers that you've downloaded. If you installed the burner, go to the DVD burner manufacturer's website, download the drivers (or use the installation CD if you have it) and reinstall that burner. Unfortunately, installing new software is a bit like throwing dice and getting a winning number. You've got to do it to get new hardware to work, but I always hold my breath til I find out if everything is still working correctly.
Becky
Nothing in that startup would have controlled your Internet browsing. I am at a loss as what to tell you to do. Update....... my internet browsing is doing fine. And to ML..... My drivers show up in other programs. I'm giving up as I do not know what else to do. I've already gotten rid of Roxio and tried Nero. I don't Nero very much. Roxio met all my needs. Guess I'll have to think of something else. Thanks everyone who tried to help. Hope all have a Happy New Year.
