drag-to-disc not working

I just got a new Dell E521 and everything was going great until

installed "Roxio Easy media creator 7 basic DVD". The DVD-RW

drive disappeared from "My Computer". I did what was suggested

(removing upper& lower filters) from the MS link:

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/314060/en-us. And of course the

DVD-RW drive showed back up in "My Computer". My problem now is I

cant use the "drag-to-disc" (version 7.1.0.183) feature on a CD-RW

or DVD-RW media. The DVD-RW is a TSST Corp DVD +/- RW (TS-H553A).

Any ideas whats wrong with the drag-to-disc or something I can try to fix?

 

UPDATE: The Roxio software (not just "drag-to-disc") will not write to any type of media (CD-R, CD-RW, DVD-R, or DVD-RW). It appears that Roxio does not see the drive for writing purposes. Any ideas why?

I think your concern about RW discs indicates you've fallen victim to what I call "Basic False Assumption" - that you format the floppy, then use the floppy - therefore you format the CD or DVD and then use it.

Or, to put it another way, I lost the 80% of the files on the formatted CD-RW that weren't also on the Hard Drive.

 

If you want to KEEP the data, NEVER format the disc, and NEVER use RW media.

Sorry, but Roxio never sold a basic version of EMC 7.5. Contact Dell for support of that version as it was made for Dell, to their specifications.
