drag to disc

Karen

Question

I am trying to add files to a CD-R using drag-to-disc. I currently have one file that I burned previously and am now trying to add another. I drag the file to drag-to-disc. When I look at the disc contents, I see the previous file and the new one that I am adding. I eject the CD, always checking the box that I can add data later. However, when I put the CD back in my computer the file that I was trying to add is no longer there. Am I missing something?

I've tried that many times. The icon to import data is grayed out so I 've not been able to use it on a CD-R. It's been there on CD-RW though. I also get lots of error messages - write error, medium error. So I go buy more CD-Rs by a different manufacturer byt still get errors. Any ideas? I feel like I have wasted my money and time. People tell me I should wait until my fiscal year is over and then burn everything at once. I keep thinking I should be able to do it each month when I have completed the financials. It has become a challenge.

Update the firmware for your burner. Write medium errors are usually caused by poor media. I have no idea why the you can't import your previous data in Creator Classic, unless that previous data was burned to a disk with Drag to Disc, in which case it will never work.

Karan: This stuff is not hard to do once you get the hang of it. I reviewed your posts after your 6:00 PM post and see we have been down this road before…

For what you are talking about doing, you don't want to be using D2D!

Session writing has worked flawlessly since V6. It worked well before that, but there was some user options that if misused resulted in lost data.

Frankly I don't see how we can assist you through this board. You need to find someone who is knowledgeable in Session burning with Roxio software and get them on-site to assist you!

If these are import company records there should be no squabble about footing the bill.

Make sure your burner is updated with the latest firmware.

Do you have any other software on your system that will try to write to the drive? Sonic DLA, Nero InCD, Alcohol 120%, AnyDVD, Direct CD.

Just ONE packet writing program is all.

You do realize Drag2Disc is great at permantly LOSING you files - as are ALL Packet-Writing programs.

Make sure you have the Eject Settings set to leave the disc alone.

Cannot emphasize enough, what ogdens said! D2D should never be used for anything that is a backup or archive.

Those are the settings I have for ejecting. I've tried using Creator Classis to make copies but have not had any luck adding files at a later date. This is what I am trying to do - currently I am archiving my company's monthly financial statements in a file cabinet printing them off when they are done. I thought that if I could save these on a CD then it would save paper and room in my office. I thought putting them on a CD-R each month after they were complete would accomplish this. I bought Roxio Creator 9 so that I could add these each month on a CD-R until I have the full fiscal year on the CD. I have not had any luck except to burn the initial financials. I have not been able to add to CD-r. I have tried 4 different manufacturere CDs. I uninstalled and reinstalled. I have been able to this on a CD-RW but not CD-R. This has been a most frustrating experience. What do you recommend?

D2D and an authoring program, Classic, are completely incompatible with each other!!!!! You cannot mix and match programs.

What you want to use is Classic – Data Disc Project – Appendable Disc.

Follow the picture below in the Help file. – I suggest you try this a few times using a CD-RW disc until you are sure you understand how to do it.
