LP input is too "hot" and clips a lot...

Question

hello,

have been doing some lps into the computer with good results and no problems.

now I am importing some 12" singles like "le freak" and they are clipping. tried to lower the slider but it will not go low enough without fading completely. auto is still clipping some. tried all kinds of adjustments using volume control, no results.

turned off the phono preamp and used its other function but that was so low it was barely audible.

suggestions on how to fine tune to reduce clipping?

If you have it connected to your sound card mic input, change it to the line in port on your sound card.

If you have it connected to your sound card mic input, change it to the line in port on your sound card.

If indeed you have it connected to the line-in already, then if you have a cassette deck at your disposal connect the output of your pre-amp to the inputs of the cassette deck, and the outputs of the cassette deck to the line-in of your sound card.

With a blank tape in the deck, set the deck up to record, and press the Pause button. You don't actually need to be recording.

Now turn down the volume on the cassette deck to reduce the signal going to your sound card. (You can do the same thing if you have any other controllable "preamp" you can use.) Hope that helps.
