Can't burn DVD+R use creator 7.2

Jenny

Question

I have an external HI-VAL DVD burner that used to be able to burn either DVD+R/DVD-R disc when I use Easy creator 6 on win2000.

Since I upgrade my DELL desktop to winxp and Easy Creator 7.2, it does not allow me to burn DVD+R. In the untility info it says my burner can onlu burn DVD-R.

But if I connect the burner to my laptop, it can burn both DVD +R/-R without problem using creator 7.

What's wrong with my desktop? I can see the DVD driver is the same version. :)

Does anyone know how to make it work with DVD+R on my desktop?

Thanks!

Jen

Yes, that is from the creator classic help. I think it is OEM version, it comes with another burner (WriteMaster) in my office. I thought because it is EMC, so it should work on my Hi-Val. :)

My IE is 6.0.2900.2180.xpsp_sp2_gdr.050301-1509

Jenny I see no, Easy Media Creator 7.2.0.1.6, I see these, 7.5.2.49 - 7.1.1.189 - 7.0.430.0 !

Open Creator Classic help, about creator classic.

One more time open Internet Explorer and click help, about Internet explorer version 6.0.2900.2180?

FYI

An OEM is usually a version that a large computer manufacturer buys and installs to sell pre-installed on their computer (sometimes they may add features that are only available in the full retail Platinum edition) The computer buyer gets a copy of the pre-installed software in case they have to reinstall it on their computer. For example, if the files get corrupt or the hard drive has to be reformatted, that computer user needs a copy of the software to reinstall the software that came with the computer. OEM means Original Equipment Manufacturer.

Some OEM, versions come with CD burners.

These "Basic" versions vary and are customized to fit the contract of the OEM purchaser.

Likewise, ALL support comes from your OEM provider and not from Roxio. Contact your OEM provider and see what they have to say.

When Write-Master (or whoever is using the name) bought the OEM rights, they also accepted the responsibility to support it. (Granted, they may figure the time for it has passed, leaving you with little more than what we come up with here.)

The fact that it is V.7.2 suggests it has some features that would not normally be in EMC 7 or 7.5, and we really don't know what those differences are.

Also, an OEM mfgr can tie an OEM Version to one burner - when I put the Nero software from my Combo drive on over the updated Nero software the place I bought the computer from had put on with the CD-RW, it ceased to recognize the CD-RW as a burner. The shop straightened that out along with a few other things.

So both you and we are lacking some key information about the software. :)

Oops, I did not do it yet. Thanks for the information!

The other strange thing is in the "Disc and Device Utility", it says my DVD+R is not empty and already used 4.7G, no free space left. I tried Memorex and Vderbatim, same result.

Jenny,

James, is not telling you to try it, but asking if you are using it? IE 7 has broke parts of EMC7.

You didn't by any chance make the oft-repeated mistake of formatting it did you?

No, I did not do anything. I just try to create some data DVD from some files on my computer. When I click 'burn', the disc is ejected and display: you must use the following type disc: DVD-R.

I just did a bit of googling and found a report describing the same problem you have. One suggestion was this:

Re: Issue with my Hi-Val DVD Writer Model HDVD168DLME

"...your drive sounds like it might be a rebadged benq 1640/EW164B, you may want to try and cross flash your drive to the firmware available in this thread:

http://club.cdfreaks.com/showthread.php?t=158502

You might want to verify that it is in fact a rebadged benq drive.

Also you might want to find out what chipset is used in the external enclosure so you may also update the firmware for that as well...."

Jenny,

I would hold off on this cross flashing the drive. One pc works with the drive so there seems to be another problem!

I need some info download and install this free program, dvd identifier version : 5.0.1, http://DVD.Identifier.CDfreaks.com/. Open it and put a +R disc in the burner and let it identify the disc by clicking indentify! Click Clipboard ( it copys it to there) then right click paste and post the info here please. Jenny,

I would hold off on this cross flashing the drive. One pc works with the drive so there seems to be another problem!

I need some info download and install this free program, dvd identifier version : 5.0.1,

I don't have any DVD-R at hand, so really don't know if works.

Have you TRIED using DVD-R?

OK, it used to work with DVD+R and now it doesn't. And it still will use DVD+R on your laptop. But have you tried DVD-R media?

Jenny,

there is nothing wrong with the drive recognizing +R media! The software is the problem. Tell us about the upgrade and version 7.2?

"(Since I upgrade my DELL desktop to winxp and Easy Creator 7.2, it does not allow me to burn DVD+R. In the untility info it says my burner can onlu burn DVD-R)"

I completely formated my harddrive and installed winxp professional and using web updates upgraded to sp2. Then I intalled Easy Media Creator 7.2.0.1.6, the same one I installed on my laptop.

My laptop is winxp professional SP2 too, but installed by someone else I don't know how they installed it. Maybe the OS is the problem?

Since there are only V.7, V.7.1, and V.7.5, the V.7.2 must be from some other source - probably OEM (Original Eqpt Mfgr) - did you get it with your computer or your burner?

Regular updates, if any, may undo some features of an OEM installation.
