Question

Hello:

I been using v7 Suite for a long long time and decided to upgrade to v9 Suite. The look/appearance as changed dramaticly but the functionality are similar. Was hoping for some improvements on burning than extra features. Ver9 install went ok and seems to run ok so far, using XP Pro Sp2

I do have two issues:

First: Of course I installed v9 under admin rights and when I started the applications it asked me to register and I did. I have other family members who uses the computer (separate log-in's) and when my son used a Roxio component it asked him to register also. My question is, does he use his email or do I use mine from my original register?

Second:

In version 7 when I burned a data DVD-R using Creator Classic, I kept each session open, there were about 6 separate sessions (each session burn was Imported and the data can be seen when done). On the last session (which was Imported as well), I was done and decided to close the disk, the burn went without any errors. After wards when I viewed the DVD-R disk, the first data session was the only data vissible, all the other sessions data was not there, gone. What happened and will I have that problem doing the same type of burn with v9? I like to keep Creator Classic Sessions open until I'm done. Then I want to make it a read only DVD-R disk. Is this possible without loosing multiple session data? CD-R disks has no problems.

Thanks,

Tony

No, since it is the same computer, use the same log in as before.

Should not be a problem. Make sure you are creating a 'data' DVD. In the burn dialog box, uncheck 'read only'. This closes the session and keeps teh disc open. When you insert this disc to write later, Creator Classic 9 should automatically prompt you to import the last session. There is also an icon button to import the last session manually.

Hi Everyone:

In order for the previous data to be included on the next session burn it has to be "Imported". Is this what you mean by "Force Importing"?

I do have a related question for Creator Classic. I have 3 burner drives. I noticed you can't choose the drive in the main Creator Classic screen, one must click on the burn icon first which takes you to the burn screen to choose the drive there. However...

What if I had a Blank DVD-R on D-drive, and a Blank CD-R on E-drive and an already 2 session (that's still open) DVD-R on F-drive??? How can I choose the drive that I want to use in the Creator Classic main screen? Or what if I have two drives with open sessions?

Thanks,

Tony

The answer is obvious. If you want to burn a new session on a certain CD or DVD, put only that media into one of the drives, and don't put anything into either of the other drives. :)

Thanks ggrussell:

It's just that when I created a multisession DVD-R using v7 and closed it, all the sessions except the first were gone. Of course once the disk is closed, thats it. I will have to just do some data DVD-R mutisessions and see what happens. In v9 I noticed the Import Icon, but I never did see the prompt to import the last session, do I need to set that somewhere?

I suppose the answer is obvious because of how Creator Classic is designed. Which is why I brought it up. Even if there is one drive of the three having the burn disc, it still has to search to figure what drive to use. To me, it would make more sense to at least just choose the drive you want to use in the main Creator Classic Screen. Just a design issue I wanted to get out of my system...

That is not even possible!

From V6 on you either import the previous session or it will not write!

Likewise, if at anytime you don't make sure the Read Only is unchecked before burning your sessions are over.

DVD Session writing was a problem for XP prior to SP2.

This is most likely a burner issue. See if there is an update for your burners firmware. You can check your current version with the Disc and Device Utility included in V9.

Hi, I think I explained the v7 problem wrong. In v9 I did a 2 session data DVD-R test burn, and on the second session I closed the disk. All data was there when completed. So v9 is doing what I expected. Don't know what happened in v7 but that is in the past and I can now do what I want on DVD-R using v9.

Thanks,

Tony

Hmmm... Rather silly feature. Why force the user to import the first session? I think the user should have the option not to import it. I can achieve the samething by importing the first session and then removing those files from the project. It will then burn.

That "silly feature" has had this result – no one has posted a single question about lost files from previous sessions in 3 years… Whereas this was a pretty common topic in V5 and before.

This is also what XP Burn does except that it is invisible to the user.

By forcing the import of the previous session, the current session automatically makes all previous files active. And if you now have files that you no longer want, you can delete them from the project pane and they are no longer available.

Thus you can add and remove files from a session just like before and the disc is fully portable and usable on any PC with its' contents intact.
