Top 5 DVD burning mistakes

Re #1: if you have set a data disc beyond Joliet limits, and you turn on validate, you have just re-imposed Joliet limits, and the disc will fail.

Re #3: as long as you don't mind skips, feel free to burn too fast. If you object to skips, don't get beyond what your computer can send along the highways an byways of the connections.

Re #5: I let my burner have a clear field - a habit that comes from working with my Beloved, with 400MHz - there is NOTHING in the background, it's all foreground! I still do that, even tho my burning these days is on the Beast, with 2.4GHz.

Thanks for the caution on the recommendation #1.

It sounds like you agree with # 3 and # 5. I also burn DVDs at a slower speed when available and tend not to multitask when it comes to burning a DVD.

What brand and model #, did we get for the "Beast" ??

cd

Generic computer with 2.4GHz processor (Celeron, if I remember right), 768MB DDRAM, loud fans, and WinXP. Nice computer, aside from the noise from the fans. I detest WinXP.

It is mostly turned off, and presently the Beloved Win98 SE (AMD K6-2 400MHz) is sitting beside it, and I'm using the new (to me) 512MB, 1GB PIII, Win2K computer - very quiet, and able to go places that, in recent months, I've been unable to get to with the Beloved (sniff).

The Beast makes a fine backup computer, able to do burning and scanning with ease (when turned on).

Lynn - have a look here

Should cut the noise down from the hovercraft

It's quiet enough when turned off :)

The Beloved ran 24/7 (which I think is why it was doing fine over 7 years (and I always respected it when adding software/harware - not much of either), when other comparable computers died or burned out.

The new one (it was a Dell Dimension 4100 in a prior incarnation, altho the present screen is a 17" CRT and the HD is 12.7 GB) is now running 24/7 - and VERY quiet.
