Setting up chapter and menu display

scubaguy98

Question

Hi. New user to EMC9 so this is probably a no brainer and I'm just over looking the obvious but hope someone can help. I've captured all my video, edited and set my transitions. I'm ready to burn now I believe as soon as I set up my menu. This is my problem. 1. How do I set up the menu 2. How do I arrange my chapters 3. Can I arrange so that each of my panels are set as a chapter and if so could I set multiple panels as a individual chapter? I would really appreciate any help. Thanks and Happy New Year everyone.

First you need to understand how DVD menus work and specifically how MyDVD creates them. When you play a DVD on a set top DVD player, there is first the 'intro' which most people don't use. This can be a short video or slideshow. Commercial DVDs may use this for FBI warning and/or other movie previews.

Next is the MAIN MENU. This is where you can add movie titles, play all buttons, etc. THIS IS NOT where you normally put 'chapters' although alot of people try. Usually - like on commercial DVDs - You click on a button that will take the viewer to a second menu where the 'chapter' buttons are. This sub-menu is automatically creaed by default when you 'edit chapters' in MyDVD.

The arrangement of buttons is predetermined by the DVD template or style that you select. Which video is first, second, etc., is determined by the order you add the movie(s). If you change your mind and delete a video, it can really mess up the order they are highlighted so some planning ahead works better. There is some leeway in moving the buttons around on the screen, but keep in mind how they will highlighted for the viewer. The DVD PREVIEW button can be your best friend. Test out all buttons and button orders before you burn.

I just got EMC 9 and have several videos that I want to put on 1 dvd. I want to have the opening menu to let me choose which video to play, then when that one is done go back to the main menu. Can that be done? Most of the videos I have I put on vcds. But our Christmas 2006 movie was almost a gig big. So instead of wasting a dvd for 1 gig I wanted to put some of the others I have on there. I had EMC 7.5 but did most of my videos with Pinnacal Studio 9.

The size of those files means nothing. It is the length of time that controls. One hour of video, at best quality, will fill a standard 4.7GB DVD.
