Roxio Creator LE - Dell Edition?

willi

Question

Am I in the right place? Is there a place? What I have is a dell edition of roxio creator. It doesn't identify what actual version it is, so I'll start here since version 9 looks brand new and it's "About" info says it's a 2005 build.

I have a 6 month old Dell desktop with a Philips RW DVD. During some dvd write troubles, I reinstalled my Creator software multiple times. Somewhere along the way my Roxio Creator started coming up with a "No drive detected" for the available drives. I have a new drive now and everything else seems to be working again. Even Roxio DLA. But Creator still shows No drive detected. I deleted both the roxio and sonic software components before reinstalling. The icon is different from the install CD than what came preinstalled. I also tried an older version, Creator 6, and it wouldn't recognize the drive either. I moved the registry roxio and sonic items out of the way, but this didn't help.

Is there any common problem that I'm not aware of with these symptoms?

Thanks,

Willi

Ah! I did just see the "Drive not recognized" pinned topic on top. I'll try that tonight too....

You can also try removing the drive in device manager and rebooting. When Windows picks it up, hopefully the program will as well.

Also, other programs conflict with some packet writing programs like DLA and Drag to Disc. Alcohol 120% and Clone DVD to name 2. If you have something like this installed on your system, it may cause the drive issue you mention. Hopefully, the fix will work for you....let us know.

You have to remember that the Dell version is an OEM one modified by request of Dell and support for that is supposed to come from Dell (if you can get it that is - most times they'll try to shift the onus to Roxio).

However - the general hints in the pinned topics may help

Thanks Paul. I'll try that too. Nikon's picture project is the only other cd/dvd write software.

Yep, the Dell guy tried saying they don't support software already. Now that I have the drive, I'll push more and see where that might go.
