Trouble viewing finished production.

Question

Hi All,

I'm using 7.5 to make a 2 minute video clip for the company I work for. I'm using mini dvds (dv-r) to burn the project on. I can't get the computers here at work to read the disc (computers with power dvd and roxio can play it). Is this something that has to be burned to a cd-r so that computers that don't have dvd applications can play it? In dvd builder I'm creating the project as dvd. Should I create the project as dvd on cd or one of the other 2 options?

Any help will be greatly appreciated. Let me know if I left out any info.

Thanks everyone. I still can't seem to play it on other computers. I've tried using all the dvd-r+r+rw and cd-r's. I've tried in VideoWave, File\ Output production to.... video file - to playback on another computer then burned to a cd-r using creator classic. When I did that the project opened up like it was a file in a folder and I couldn't open it. I'm sure it's some thing that I'm doing wrong. I'll keep playing with it. If anything else come to mind, let me know.

Thanks again,

:)

When I did that the project opened up like it was a file in a folder and I couldn't open it. .

:)

That would indicate that Windows is set to open any mpeg CD put in the drive with Windows Explorer. I'm not sure why you couldn't open it. Did you try opening Windows Media Player first?

To change the WindowsXP setting, you can go to the Control Panel\ Folder Settings... go to File Types MPEG and change it to open with Windows Media Player, Always use the selected program to open this kind of file. And in Advanced, you can choose Open or Play.

However, this is the type of problem you're going to run into with other business computers whether you choose to give out a CD or DVD.

Try burning it to a DVD-R or DVD+R, and see if they can see it. Or, install Power DVD, or some other DVD player, on the computers.

You do not want it on a CD!!! That option will only play on Roxio's player and nothing else can play it.

There is not enough info in your post to figure out all of the possibilities so let me give you something to try...

Try using a regular DVD-R or DVD+R. Burn your project from DVD Builder and take that to work. What I want to do by this is eliminate the mini-DVD as the source of the trouble. Also, you must use Builder to make a DVD Movie with V7. If you used Classic, it will fail. (Disc Copier can be used IF the project is a DVD Movie to start with)

Not all PC's, especially in the workplace, know what to do when a DVD is inserted. Windows Media Player should play them unless someone has "taught" the PC to do otherwise with a DVD Movie.

As to you previous post, you cannot make a "Link" to an internet site from a DVD. You could add a third Title called Contact Info and make a single slide with your company contact info. Set it to 20 or 30 seconds so they will have time to find their pencil and write down the info.

I tried burning it to a DVD-R, DVD+R and a DVD+RW but none of them worked. My goal here is to burn the project on a mini dvd or mini cd and put my business card as the label on the disc so I can hand them out to our custumers and "hope to be" customers. So these would be viewed by all different people from all different companies. Any other suggestions?

Thanks,

It depends on how high a quality presentation you need.

If all you need is a movie (without a menu), in VideoWave, do a File\ Output production to.... video file - to playback on another computer. That will give you an mpeg1 file that you can then burn to a CD-R with Creator Classic. Then try playing them on the computers.

It's going to be a lower quality video than the mpeg2 file that's on a DVD, but it might fit your needs.

The other thing you can try is to burn the movie to an 'image file' (.iso). Then use Disk Copier to burn the movie (without extras) to the DVD. Unfortunately, many business and home computers don't have DVD drives or the software set up to automatically play DVDs and that's probably going to be a problem for you.
