Not Responding

RoxioProblemDVD

Question

01/03/07 12:21 AM Notice the "NOT RESPONDING" with the DVD drive highlighted in Windows Explorer. What is causing this error anyway????????????

01/03/07 12:17 AM OK........ here we go........... I just re-booted and am ready to test the DVD drive. In goes the DVD............ It's blinking. It stopped! It's blinking again.......... Apparetnly trying to get up to speed. This is the exact DVD I burned using Roxio just 2 or 3 days ago. Oh no....... Seems to be locked up. As they say in Southern California, 'de nada.' (that means "IT"S NOTHING!") Yup....... locked up........sorry bout that, but it ain't working. Is there any Einstine at Roxio that can offer a fix for this situaiton? One that will work?

Thank you for Contacting Roxio Technical Support

Id like you to try running a PX Engine update.

Update PX Engine:

http://patches.sonic.com/PX/pxengine1_08_34a.exe

You could also try uninstalling your drive(s) from device manager and reboot Windows.

If the information provided does not resolve your issue simply update your webticket with a detailed explanation with the steps you have tried and any error messages you receive.

I went to your suggested site and this is what I found. Looks dangerous. Is this a project for the novice to undetake? I am not a computer novice, but I'll bet many of yoru users are.

"........

Updating your firmware can be risky business, even if the update comes from the manufacturer of your drive. Make sure you are updating the correct drive and model number before downloading any firmware. Each drive from every manufacturer will have discrete firmware. Improper firmware for your drive can, and usually does, result in destruction of the drive."

I re-installed Roxio 8. It did then recognize my DVD drive and I was able to burn a single DVD disk/movie. I did this before I got your help memo, thanks in advance though.

The problem now is that whatever CD or DVD I put in the drive bay, it locks up the computer tighter than a bulls butt in fly season. I have to do a total powerdown in order to regain any control of anything. Then, if I put in a different CD or DVD, it locks up again and requires another powerdown.

You asked, so please read: If you truly are interested in ways to improve Roxio, you need to offer free telephone support, clearly for resgistered users. I spent $150 for this progrram (and $150 for Roxio 7 by the way) and now I need to spend another $35 for a "Per Issue" fix???? It's clear that given this data, the issue has already changed and you'd be looking to charge me yet another $35 to get the machine back running again. I'd almost sooner use Pinnacle or any other progrram at this point. Here are some logical arguments from my perspective.

First, a $150 program should work correctly right out of the box. Thats a given. Maybe too much to consider as fair to the consumer from your position, as that $35 per issue must be quite profitable. Why should the end user have to jump through so many hoops in order to get your program runing correctly?

Second, your "Roxanne" has been 100% useless in working through this problem. She gets caught in a loop and gives me the very same answers/solutions/questions each time I run a search for this issue. I used various wording and approaches for her answer. All too no avail.

Third, this issue should be eaisly located on your database. It was not. I can hardly believe I am the only person with this issue/problem. She, "Roxane" finally suggested I download and run RXFIX. The very next line in that page said something like "If that does not work, run "UNRXFIX" What is up with that????? You offer a fix then an unfix???

I tried the RXFIX and it did nothing. I then ran the unRXFIX as suggested.

12/30/06 12:43 PM I downloaded and ran your new (12-22-06) DVDInfo Pro and obtained this information. DVDInfo Pro is reading the disk, (which was blank in this case) yet MYDVD is still stating that the DVD is not detected.

HL-DT-ST DVD+-RW GSA-H21 (D:) is my DVD driver as listed on DVDInfo Pro.

Media Information:

12/30/06 12:29 PM I noticed that the time stamp Roxio puts on these Tickets does not coincide with my time here on the west coast. It is exactly 9:25 AM 30 December yet, Roxio has 12:30 PM on 30 Dec. What's up with that????

12/30/06 12:27 PM How often do I need to check this site to find my answer.

Will Roxio send an e-mail to mye ior do I need to keep returning here to look for a solution?

12/30/06 12:26 AM I have downloaded and run your RXFIIX and it did not work.

What are my next options????? MYDVD does not see the drive, but DVDInfoPro does see the DVD burner.

What is going on here?

PLEASE HELP??????

I am having the same problem! The windows explorer will eventually recognize a dvd after about 5 minutes. Until then it says Not Responding and I have to reboot to get control back. Uninstalling the CD/DVD drivers didn't help. Uninstalling EMC 8 and rebooting made the DVD drive work properly. I couldn't get my old DVD burner to be recognized in this new Dell XPS 410 so I couldn't tell if it is drive specific. The PX Engine fix didn't work.

Any help from Roxio or others would be appreciated.

Solution:

Go to Roxio website; Click Support Home; Under Support Resources menu click Ask RoxAnn; Click Your Drive is Not Recognized; Follow directions to download and run a utility to fix the the drive after reboot. :)
