Drive not recognized

jona42

Question

I'm very happy w/ Roxio 7.5. I burned several cds one day for friends and the next dat (literall) when I went back to work another cd it failed to burn a Disc Image - I got a Code 37 (I think) Drive not Recognized.

Sure enough I went to My Computer and there was NO CD/DVD Burner installed on my computer. So I checked the Properities of Drive C and low and behold, there it was - just not functioning.

I have WIndows XP, Home Edition, Service Pack 2, Intel Celeron processor, 1.10 GHrz, 384 MB of RAM. I suddenly feel naked.

Anywey, I thought it was the driver so I took the CompUSA burner back to them and since I had the warranty, had them replace it. Took it home -- same problem. Went back to CompUSA (who have always been reliable in the past) and exchanged the driver for a Mad Dog Light Scribe 18X (9.4 GB capacity). Why, you may ask?

Well, this is the only product that came with Roxio software - everything else came w/ Nero and I just have issues with Nero plain and simple. The customer support for Roxio is awful but in the past I have solutions on the boards.

OK, I got Roxio 8.2 XE, so what's the problem? I don't like it -- it's slow, I can't fade out tracks, over lap them, and it keeps showing some stupid 'short cut' window that never works, never shows the entire cd collection I have and the scroll bar just pops back to the top everytime. Roxio 8.2 is less and no I don't want to upgrade to 9 because I'll probably have even less options for burning cds than I do with 8.

I am registered, I am logged in w/ Roxio - but can I post? No.

So I have to post as a 'Guest' - go figure - our glorous age of technology.

Any feedback I would greatly appreciate - I hope I've provided you with enough information. Jona42

Thank you one and all -- odd, I clicked the notify when reply has come in but maybe my filters have their knickers in a knot.

1 - The high and low filters have been removed, no help

2 - 7.5 would not recognize either burner from CompUse or Mad Dag so I don't think it's an OEM problem (that sounds like a mantra for some reason)

3 -High and Low Filters been removed - no help (I keep wondering if I should get them back?)

4 - no nine no nine no nine no nine or NINE on 9!

5 - deleting optical drive in Device Manager, huh? er, is that safe without adult supervision - I am an adult by the way, just technically challenged.

6 - I will look into patches, but I could give a rats a** about burning dvd's - just not there yet

Again, thank you, one and all. In the mean time I've worked on making more room for memory. I'm baffled how a newer version is going to give less options than an older version but I guess I have to take that up with the sales department, eh? Probably newer FREE DEMO version vs the newer version BOUGHT.

Oh, somewhere in that list should have been another number

#doh - I had been urged to upgrade both the WMP and Internet Explorer, but when I did, the results were a mess, so I rolled the computer back to it's 'Use to Be' and removed both updates.

Thanks folks -- I'm still plugging away -- Jona42

When a burning program is included with the burner or computer, it is the "Basic" Version - it does NOT have all the features of the Full Version, the kind you buy in a box or download. So altho there are some things about EMC 8 that may not be quite as good as EMC 7 / 7.5, in the FULL Version most things are better. What you have is the cut-down, Basic, OEM Version.

Check with Mad Dog it is THEIR OEM version of Roxio. The OEM provides all support .

See if you system meets their minimum requirements for their software.

PS

Internet Explorer 7 and WMP 11 have been causing problems all over.(in case you just updated to them.)

The Version that comes with hardware (burner, computer) is a limited capaciaty Version.

That's most of why you can't do some things with it that you could with a full Version 7 or 7.5.

But as Ogdens said, support for a OEM (Original Eqpt Mfgr) edition is from the Mfgr.

If the drive is showing as not installed, this is an Operating System error not an error in the Roxio software. It is at the level below the Roxio software so this talk of OEM versions is a red herring.

The O.S. error should be fixed by deleting the optical drive in Device Manager and restarting Windows, to get it to install the drive again, or if that doesn't succeed fixing the filters which CDanteek referred to.

You have posted as 'jona42' so that must have come right. Lo and behold, our glorious age of technology has come through for you. :)

You said......"I have WIndows XP, Home Edition, Service Pack 2, Intel Celeron processor, 1.10 GHrz, 384 MB of RAM."

I think that you're going to have a hard time running version 8 on that computer.

As for getting your DVD drive recognized...... I would also encourage you to go to the website of the DVD manufacturer. Frequently, they'll have a software/firmware patch to fix drive recognition problems. Check their FAQ also to see if there are any known problems.
