Activation for CD Version

millerah1

Question

I have just installed the CD version of EMC 9. I tried to initiate activation by loading DVD Express but I did not receive any demands to activate. Could somebody please explain whether I shall have to activate certain modules of my version? It would also help to have a full explanation on the subject of Activation.

Yes, you will have to activate, eventually. Sometimes it doesn't make you activate the first time you use the program. I have no clue why not.

What full explanation would that be?

It is not going to happen for a very good business reason.

Probably time to move on with your life. :)

Yes; move on with a different software company. This one obviously does not care if the customer is unhappy, inconvenianced, and is required to jump through hoops to use the application. the other vender requirement is a nice out for Roxio's own policy. Always easier to blame it on the other guy than to fix it.

Would you or someone else have a list of these products? Then people would at least be able to watch out for them. If Roxio includes these third party applications, would it still not be its responsibility to let us, its customers, know which ones require activation? After all, since these applications are under its umbrella, it is part of the user experience under the Roxio logo.
What's the big deal? If the product asks you to activate or register, just say yes. May as well get used to it. More and more products are requiring product activation. In fact, I have one that checks the validation of my serial number once a week!! Software and music pirates have had they hay day and now we have to pay for it. At least, the software companies aren't using hardware dongles any more.

The activation kicks in normally when certain modules are called up. In some cases they use proprietary 3rd party stuff and the activation was insisted on.

You may actually have to activate two or three times - this is normal

Thank you all for your input.

I think that if Roxio is going to ask for activation it should have an orderly process of doing so as is the case with other big software vendors. Activation is usually asked for when one first starts using the software and then forgotten about.

Roxio should provide details and instructions on the activation process to facilitate its procedure for its customers. By making it a vague and by chance process, this may lead to confusion at a later time, when suddenly a person is confronted with this issue after having forgotten about it.

This looks almost like an afterthought that has been poorly designed and configured.

I do not much authoring, except for important family events. Imagine a few months from now if, in the middle of a project, I am suddenly confronted with a demand for activation and something goes wrong. It would be much better to deal with that now as I am getting aquainted with the new version.

The activation is required for other software in the suite (provided by third party sources) and it's their requirement that it be activated.

As this only involves certain parts, unfortunately that's the way it had to be.

Hi there:

At the beginning it might not ask you to activate anything. It will look as if you only need the numbers just to install the program; but later on when you go to use some of the features of the suite, it will ask you to please activate the programs in order to use them. And NOT all the programs need to be activated.

Does this answer your questions?

Peace,

Arms :)
