how do I change a picture's size

Danno111

Question

I think this is possible with some sort of an overlay, or something. I have some pictures where the heads of the people are at the very top of the picture. With the TV Safe zone, it cuts off their faces. I can edit the pictures in Paint Shop to add a border so that the faces are further down on the picture, but I think there's a way to reduce the size of the picture. The "travel" theme reduces the picture to a small frame. How do I do this so that the total picture is smaller and not cutting off vital elements?

Thanks,

Danno

I truly appreciate your help. My previous question (at least in my mind), was unrelated. I was confused and thought that the physical size of my photos would take up more DVD space. I was trying to find out if I needed to convert them to a compressed type, like JPG.

My current question is about the display and parts of the picture cutting off due to the safe zone. I know I can add a border. But, I also know that if I create a sample movie using the Travel style, it is set up so that a smaller version of my picture is displayed. Based on this, I assume that it is possible to use this functionality to accomplish what I, and others, are trying to do without adding a border to the original picture.

I don't understand how it's done, but it looks like they put the travel overlay in the main picture/panel area. Then, they apply an overlay. The pictures show up in the smaller box. And it's the whole picture, just reduced in size. I was hoping that someone could explain how this is done. But, I think they'd have to create a sample with the travel style to understand what is going on.

Thanks again,

Danno

You are using the Slideshow Assistant? Videowave is the preferred way but I guess the Themes/overlays offered in the Assistant will not be available to you.

I'm not in front of the PC that has the software but I remember you can use Image Cropper (as mentioned in the first thread I provided you) to resize the images within the safe zone instead of cropping.

Danno - I think you were on the correct track to start. You have two choices: Add a border to the images or add the image to the overlay track and reduce to 80-85%. Both will achieve the same effect, but the overlay may cause longer render time. I say 'may'. Depends on how many you add this way.

When you use the overlay method, you need to insert a color panel first and place the image as overlay on the color panel.

Thanks Gary. That's what I was missing. I now see that the pictures were put in as an overlay.

One more thing... I am once again confused. I have been going in through MyDVD and creating CineMagic movies. I'm not adding any video, just pictures, transitions, music, etc. What is the advantage of creating these segments in VideoWave? VidewWave and CineMagic look very similar, but before I go any further, should I stop using CineMagic and switch to VideoWave?
