Question on $20 Mail-In rebate

Sweet Toof

Question

Howdy all - haven't used Toast 8 yet, but the interface looks great, and can't wait to try out the TivoToGo app! About time! :)

I am a registered user of Toast 7, and bought the (downloadable) upgrade to Toast 8. The rebate form doesn't really cover my scenario (boxed product v.7, downloaded v.8).

I realized I sent in the UPC from my v.7 box, so all I have is the original manual, CD, and the serial/TSID info on the back. Should I assume I can just send in a photocopy of the v.7 installation CD, along with my v.8 download confirmation receipt?

I think I know what I need to send in, but sheesh, after the v.7 rebate debacle, I just want to get the info from the horses mouth, so to speak. Roxio?

I suggest having a list of requirements, rather than breaking it out by boxed or downloaded. Surely I'm not the only one who has one of each......

Are you a Roxio employee?

Guess not. Regardless, I have emailed Sonic asking for a refund. As expected, I've heard nothing back from either the ticket I logged two days ago, or the email I was asked to send (after breaking down and calling customer service) today.

I don't know what to say about Roxio. Version 7 was slick, worked well for me, as did v.6, etc.

8 seems nice enough, but Tivo Transfer is -buggy-, and it will be awhile before I need Blu Ray support. I wouldn't mind spending the money anyway, because I'm an early adopter, but this just isn't the way to run a business. It WILL catch up to them, as soon as somebody decides to release a comparable product AND support their customers.

I've always thought it bizarre, these types of situations. Does the executive management even -care- about us? I mean, it's not like they can't read these forums as easy as anyone else. Do they not see these issues, and ask their staff what needs to be done?

Not sure, don't care anymore. There are a few other apps out there, time to give my money to a company that is interested in satisfying a customer. Still can't help but think I should send all this stuff to the Attorney General. Checking around the forums, this isn't an isolated issue, and rebate scams seem to be Roxio's M.O. Still. Even after the version 7 rebate scams.

bye now.

If worse comes to worse, just call our customer service department. There is no reason to threaten to involve legal action. I can already tell you they are going to ask if you called and talked to a person.

Why is this happening again? Many of us had numerous issues with the v.7 rebate. So to keep that from happening again you decided to do.....umm....nothing?

Listen, it's $20 we're talking about here. So it's obviously not about the money. Why does Roxio insist on making it so extraordinarily difficult to get a simple rebate? I've been a customer for many years, and every #$^@ year I tell myself it's the last.

Regardless, how much of my time do I need to spend to get my $20? I copied the items you asked for. I poured over the requirements to make sure I had it 100% correct (ironically, to avoid this exact situation). I filled out rebate forms. I stuffed 'em into an envelope, put a stamp on it, and mailed it.

Now you want me to call in and beg for my $20 as well? Here's an idea - tell your rebate company to approve my rebate, mail it out, and I'll go away. Here's a link to help you out:

And I'm not 'threatening' legal action, just wondering if this is something the state consumer department would be interested in. I mean, every company makes mistakes once. But starting to see a bit of a pattern here.....

Do did you purchase the Macworld special? The one with Toast and the Tivo Wireless adapter and remote?

I thought that had an instant savings and no rebate was needed? I could be wrong though as I didn't purchase that package.

Macworld special, but only with the TiVo Glo Remote (no wireless adaptor).

I'd suggest refunding your Toast 8 download and purchasing the discounted upgrade version from:

I double checked with our sales department and there was no rebate for the macworld specials.

Yeah, that's interesting - WHERE on the rebate form is that stated? For that matter, WHERE on the roxio.com Macworld specials page is that stated?

For those wishing to check, see the rebate form here:

http://docs.roxio.com/en/rebates/toast/rebate_toast_8_20.pdf

Or the cached Macworld specials page here:

Smells a little fishy to me.

None of the Macworld specials had a rebate. They were all instance saves and that was the price you received. I'm not sure why you thought there was a rebate for those, there never was.

The reason is because the article I read said the first 5,000 buyers got a free Tivo Glo remote. So I jumped over and bought it. The remote was $20, and I believe it automatically added the $20 rebate form to my order. Made sense to me, offer a free remote, charge $20 for it, include a $20 rebate.

So understand - I'm not claiming that since some third party article said it was true it is, but the facts show that I ordered the special, it came with the rebate, and here we are. I have the receipt from the web site that plainly shows the rebate as part of the purchase (and the remote).

Sigh. I -did- purchase off the upgrade page, this is not the issue. I bought the upgrade package that included the Tivo Glo Remote.

Anyway, as expected, I got my email this morning from the rebate company saying my rebate was INVALID. Why? You guessed it - missing the UPC code from Toast 8.

Guess I'm trying to understand how you download a physical UPC.

Some things never change. At this point, I am convinced that this is not much short of a scam, to make it as difficult as possible for the consumer. I'm sure there are a percentage of buyers that just give up, or don't understand, or just walk away in frustration.

The rebate does not list the UPC as a requirement. I sent in:

• The completed rebate form

• A copy of the download receipt (with serial numbers) for Toast 8

• A copy of the face of my Toast 7 CD, along with the a copy of the CD key and TSID sticker

I'm starting to think it may be time to get my state's Attorney General involved........

I totally understand the confusion. There is actually problem with the cookies that causes the rebate to stay in the shopping cart I think. Sometimes it even shows multiple rebates, but only one can be used.

I'm sorry you wasted so much time with this and not being able to use the rebate.
