"Will it make any difference to the performance of EMC 9?"

Excellent question Brian ! As one of our members put it---"Only Microsoft Knows" :):D:huh:

I agree Jess that there are probably a whole lot of files that were included in the redist download that are probably not needed. And I still think it's all a bunch of MS "hocus pocus". :D:D:D

I guess the point that I was trying to make was that once you had downloaded and updated the DirectX file, that somewhere in the first screen, under the "General" tab, that the file would have updated the newer date, without having to go to the File Tab to see what was the latest file on your computer.

BTW, without having to display another attachment, my screen is exactly like Jess's also.

If you don't show any 1-9-2007 under the date, I wouldn't feel better!

cd

Have you downloaded the update? What does yours show?

Well. now I'm not so sure if the date is the same. I downloaded the 1-9-2007 file and ran it. Then rebooted and my diagnostic screens still don't show the newest date. Any one care to guess why ??

Frank...

Gary's screenshot show a date of 1-9-2007 for all files.

Jess--That was the same file size as I had. (Reference attachment)

Frank...

I got it! On the download page that Gary provided, go down the page and choose item 3 (Latest DirectX Redist) to download. This is about 52 MB. It will ask for a folder to extract the files. Once extracted, I double click the DXSETUP.EXE file. Files will be installed. Once done, I deleted the folder I specified earlier.

Now, I get the same files (and yes, the date is current date for the DirectX files) shown in Gary's snapshot.

I don't know what dxwebsetup.exe file does (the 277 kb file).

Anyway, looks like problem solved! And I feel much much much better (take note cd, there are 3 "much" words embedded there). :)

"Only Microsoft knows for sure. LOL"

Sounds similar to that old saying that was on a TV show a long time ago---"Only The Shadow Knows". Darned if I can remember what the name of that program was :)

Anyway, thanks Jess for straightening out all this "hocus pocus".

much much much

File Name: dxwebsetup.exe

Version: DX

Date Published: 1/9/2007

Language: English

Download Size: 42 KB - 31.4 MB*

I checked 18 entries dated 1-9-2007.

Downloaded (Latest DirectX Redist) about 52 MB) same, same 18 entries dated 1-10-2007, now.
