cd rom drives

brian sam

Question

has any one got any idea why i have no cd rom drives.

i have removed win ex 7 and rolled back to 6 reinstalled emc 7.5 dvd builder now works fine. but i have lost my dvd and write rom drives.

they have yellow symbols against them in hardware profiles. i have tried uninstalling reinstalling drivers etc. but to no avail.

both drives were there after reinstalling 7.5 but i lost the drives when rebooting after finishing installation of emc 7.5. also tried removing and reinstalling 7.5 again.

i did have win media 11 on my pc but removed that prior to removing exp 7.

sitting her hopefully

Ok it's been two weeks. Needed to write a CD... I'm back to the Runtime Errors again!

If people are getting this error as well, there's not much more I can suggest; the software was obviously flawed and they never bothered to properly fix it. The alternatives are to buy the most-recent version and hope it doesn't fail, or get a package from a completely different manufacturer you know that works.

Strange, the software was released in 2004, and the other posters in this thread were able to get it to work back in January.

Of course, it is possible you have downloaded (or allowed Windows to download) Internet Explorer 7, which makes changes deep in the operating system that derail a lot of software, including EMC 7 and 8 - but that is NOT the fault of the software manufacturers. It is due to a subsequent change by Microsoft.

DougTaylor,

Thanks, and keep us posted!

cd

No joy it reinstalled the same versions of CDRAWL_W2K.sys and CDR4_2K (I'm using W2K Professional) and promptly lost the drive, as this has just suddenly happened to me I suspect that a microsoft security update has stopped it working. If so I guess Roxio will get bombarded with complaints.

For me all is not lost, I can still produce ISO Files and copy them across the LAN to my son's PC and burn them there. He doesn't believe in updating!

Doug.

No IE 7 installed in one of those updates?

cd

Yes Even though it wasn't asked for, had the same issue at work with it being installed unwanted and unannounced, but that's a separate issue I'm sure.

I have finally got my system working by comparing my son's machine and my own. CDRAL_w2k.sys etc where at version 7, but all the supporting dlls had gone. My son's machine had version 8 of these drivers (published by Sonic systems), which are just stubs pointing to the PXEngine drivers, putting those drivers on my machine and making sure that the PXEngine drivers were up to date and all appears to be working again.

Having the filters pointing to the old packet writer drivers without the supporting DLLs and of course Windows can't load the CD drivers, remove the filters and it can.

I'm surprised that the PXEngine installer didn't update ALL the necessary dlls and drivers though and the same for Easy Media installer.

Please come back and tell us what fixs it!

cd

thank you for your suggestions on how to fix my no cd roms problem. it was only a reformat and reload of win xp that finally sorted it.

at least my pc is running sweetly now for a while. with no explorer 7 or win media 11.

emc 7.5 dvd builder is now doing what it should.

i have emc 8 on another pc and have had it there for some time. i have been trying to find any 3d transitions but no luck. can any one tell me if they are there,if so how do i get em.

and can the menu thumbnail in dvd builder be animated as it can in 7.5.

Thanks for the feedback.

I would suggest you open a new post on the EMC 8 forum for the transition problem.

I would also suggest that you also supply some info on your computer especially the graphics card.

I noticed this problem as well in EMC7 and it seems to be related to a bug that occurs after installing 7.1.2 update. Problem is, if you don't install this update, EMC7 stops working after a while with a Runtime Error...

I think roxio broke their own software and windows along with it! It looks like both you and I will have buy the most recent version of EMC (if we want a version that keeps working, that is) :angry2:

UPDATE: I take it back. If you install the PXEngine Patch above AFTER installing the 712 update, it corrects the problem.

If ogdens link don't cure it, go here.

Guided Help to delete the UpperFilters and LowerFilters registry values that can cause CD access problems.

http://support.microsoft.com/?scid=kb%3Ben...p;x=12&y=13

cd

That restored them for me, but then the Roxio products lost track of the drive, so I ran the roxio fixfilter program and that lost the drive for me again.

Next on my list is to deinstall then reinstall to see if that restores the missing filters.
