beach
I purchased Easy CD Creator 4 and it work great on by past computers Win 98 and Win 2K. I switch computers to a Dell Dimension Win 2k and Easy CD fails at the formating operation, it does see the CD as a writable CD. I get this error "device is reserved by other process (code) 0x8000001a" Can anyone tell me whats wrong here. I try calling support, but I think my phone battey was going down after an hour. Second problem, I purchased from Roxic/Sonic DLA Delux 4 downloaded and excuted file DLA_490B16C_SSD. There is no executable file to perform a DLA on the writeable CD. Re-did this twice. Again I try calling support, but I think my phone battey was going down after an hour. I know the two; Easy CD and DLA Delux 4 can not be together at all. Need some help here, new to this foram so can I get and answer here or my e-mail. [edited to avoid spam]
gi7omy
If you have been formatting the disc, I assume you are using DirectCD - a very unreliable method of storing data for other than a quick transfer between two machines: it's about as reliable as an igloo in the Sahara for long term storage. Once you 'format' a disc - then DirectCD will take control of it - better to put the blank disc in without doing anything to it and, that way, you will be able to use Creator and the rest of the programs. Btw - I edited out your e-mail: these along with all public boards are trawled by spider bots and any e-mail addresses posted usually end up on a spammer's list
lynn98109
ECDC 4 and WinXP are ABSOLUTELY incompatible. Pinned to the top if this Forum is http://forums.support.roxio.com/index.php?showtopic=805 You did look around for FAQ type posts pinned to the top, didn't you? To recover you files, either get access to a computer that can load your antiquated software, or use a recovery program, such as cdroller (www.cdroller.com) or ISOBuster (www.isobuster.com). Both have impressive testimonials on their websites and in the Roxio boards. Both have a "trial" version you can download to see if anything can be recovered before you have to pay. For future reference: if you want to KEEP the data, NEVER format the disc. You might also find this interesting and useful, and almost all of it is relevant to Version 4 (and 5) even tho it is in the EMC 7 Forum: http://forums.support.roxio.com/index.php?showtopic=12382 Lynn

He said he knows the two can't be run together, so I assume (maybe a bad choice) that he's uninstalled Direct CD before installing Sonic DLA. beach
To all thanks for a response. ECDC 4 ran A-ok on WinXP but it was an HP computer Ok true it’s not running on WinXP on the Dell, lets assume incompatible, why, I don’t understand it all. Also the two programs ECDC 4 and Sonic DLA 4 were never on the computer at the same time, deleted through control panel. Never used a previously formatted disk always new. In reference to ECDC 4 I have photographs (jpeg files) from 5 years ago which are still accessible through windows explore today. (just a little plus for ECDC) Lets go to the second problem: I purchased from Roxic/Sonic DLA Deluxe 4 downloaded and excited file DLA_490B16C_SSD. There is no executable file to perform a DLA on the write able CD. Re-did this twice. Now in the executed file folder Sonic\DLA there is a file “dla.exe” But its icon is a blank menu square and it does nothing. I still can’t get through to support. Any Ideas Here on what’s going on. lynn98109
1. You have said at different times that both the HP and the Dell are Win2K, and at other times they are both WinXP. There seems to be some confusion. WinXP and Win2K are NOT the same Operating System. 2. ALL telephone and email support for ECDC 4 ended a couple of years ago. 3. Different Packet-Writing programs, such as DirectCD, Drag2Disc, Sonic's DLA, Nero's InCD, etc are incompatible with each other, and sometimes with different Versions of the same program. 4. Packet-Writing has a tendancy to be fussy at best, and to fail for any reason or none at all. 5. Using RW media will speed the disappearance of data on Packet-Written (formatted) optical (CD, DVD) discs. 5. When we refer to taking a new CD-R directly out of hte package or off the spindle, we not only mean one that has been formatted before, but DO NOT format the discs. If you want to KEEP the data, NEVER format the disc. Formatting the disc is one of the best ways to permantly LOSE the data. Have I been clear enough? (OK, I didn't believe my software guru, and lost the 80% of the data on the formatted CD-RW that wasn't also on the Hard Drive.) 6. You might try the recovery programs referred to in one or more of the links above - cdroller (www.cdroller.com) or ISOBuster (www.isobuster.com) - both have impressive testimonials on their websites and in the Roxio boards. Both have a "trial" Version that let you see if anything can be recovered before you have to pay. Lynn

Lynn No mention of data loss at this point, just inability to format in Direct CD on the new machine, and inability to get Sonic DLA to install. When did you purchase DLA 4? I've never had it nor installed it, so I don't know whether this is a current version or an older one. Part of the problem that Direct CD 3.5 (which came with ECDC 4) may be having is that your drive is newer than it properly supports. What CD/DVD writer drive do you have? (Make and model, please.) It may be recognizing it as a writer, but since ECDC 4 relied on drive identification tables to talk to drives, it may not be fully able to communicate with your drive at the end of the format process. How new is the new Dell and drive? Let us know.
