How to remove video without moving native audio?

treehousemann

Question

I got to believe this will be one of the simpler questions, but I just can't find the solution.

So if you have a videoclip that has a combination of on camera interviews and b-roll shots for cover and you want to keep the audio intact but just replace or move around some of the video shots only.. How do you do that?

I could only figure I have to extract the audio and lay it down as a separate track and then go back and recut the video, but syncing the audio for the on-camera interviews is tedious and hard. Is there an option to extract /move video in the editor without having to bother the sound?

Thanks

YOu have the idea. ANYTHING on the overlay track will 'hide' what is underneath (roll A) soyou will only have to move the "B" clip back n forth to get it in sync. In the TimeLine mode there a tool to 'zoom' the TimeLine.

LOTS of tricks you can do with the overlay. Heard of the 'green screen' effect they use for the Weatherman on the news? Yep, you can do chroma key with Videowave. Some really cool effects when you use that with regular photos.

Picture in Picture? Also done with the overlay track. There is a total of up to 5 overlay tracks.

Technically, the text is an overlay track that is only used for text.

That is great! I had no idea... lots to learn though.. Do you have transitions options out of the overlays?

Thanks so much..

I have another question, based on a project I'm going to take on with Videowave.. I have a lot of Quicktime files. What is the best conversion for them to work with and look the best in videowave... AVI, MPEG, WMV?

Gary I feel like I should give you a percentage for all your help!!

Thanks

The list in the url indicates Quicktime as a supported input video format (that means you can use it in Videowave and MyDVD).

The Kid id correct. No cvonersion needed. Plop those .MOV files right to the timeline! Just make sure you have the latest Quicktime installed.

Unfortunately, no transitions per se. Click the overlay and VIEW/SETTINGS. Select the last TAB (red dot I think). There are several options like fade in/out. Fly in/out, etc., which work on the overlay.

Unfortunately, there is no EASY way to do that in Videowave. You can extract the native audio of the "A" roll and save to WAV file. When you add the video clips, mute the audio for those so you only hear the WAV when added.

Doing the cut aways is more difficult. To keep audio sync, I wouldn't be cuting everything up. Place the "A" roll on the timeline. Mute the sound. Add teh WAV file and make sure they are in sync. SAVE this project.

Start second project. Add the "B" roll. For EACH cut away, EXPORT to file each small clip. This is the tedious part.

Got back to the first project. Now add the short cut away clips on the OVERLAY track. ZOOMING in will help you move the clip to get it in sync with the audio WAV.

Repeat until all the small clips are used.

Thanks so much. I think I get it. So bascially the "A" roll becomes the clip recreated using the the extracted wave file, but this way I know the audio is in sync. The "B" role are my cut aways. As long as the cut aways match in timing what I am replacing I should be good. Correct?

I just have never used the Overlay track.. What is the ZOOM

advantage, or benefit to using the Overlay track?
