EMC 7 Basic VCD installation hangs at "Creating shortcuts"

Galen

Question

I have installed a new Plexwriter PX-230A CD burner, and it came with Roxio Easy Media Creator 7 Basic VCD edition. The drive is recognized by the computer (running Windows SP4, and doesn't have IE 7 installed). I try to install the Roxio software, and every time it stops responding at the "Creating shortcuts" entry on the status bar. I try to cancel the install or exit it, but the installshield wizard remains on the screen, and I have to hardboot the PC as it will not restart or shutdown from the Start Menu. I can confirm that there is a Roxio folder in the All Users\Start Menu\Programs, and that there are shortcuts in the folder, but they do only have a generic icon, and when I try to change the icon for Roxio Easy Media Creator 7 Basic VCD Edition I get the message

"Windows cannot find the file %SystemRoot%\Installer\{36EF4012-D58B-436A-9C73-BAD48A517F5}\NewShortcut32_CB4544EAC18941FE9E3A76591DDB852B.exe."

There is no entry in Add/Remove Programs to show that the program has been installed. I have run the roxizap.exe utility, deleted the Roxio folder under Program Files, and run RegClean from Microsoft to try to get a clean install. Any other suggestions that could be given to help get this installed would be extremely appreciated!

You can try to copy the contents of the CD, to your hard drive and try to install from the hard drive. If that doesn't work, I have no idea what you can do. The software was made to Plextor's specs, and is not the software that users in these forums use.
