Error writing CD's

rbgflyer

Question

Installed EMC9 on Vaio laptop with dual layer CD/DVD drive (MATSHITA UJ-842D). Tried to copy a vanilla CD, read the CD, but could not write. Got error ("Seek, synch, ATIP or mechanical positioning error - hardware error.". Tried several differenc CD's. Can write using other software (Video Vault, Pinnacle, etc.) No firmware upgrade available, not sure how to attack this. Any suggestions?

Thanks

Dump that drive, and get a new one. They are inexpensive now, ant that Matshita may be dying.
