Need to put video clips on DVD

asandull

Question

Hey everyone...This is what I need to do. I have about 1.5 hours of video on mini DV's that I transferred to the computer using a dazzle video adapter. Now that I have the files on my computer how do I put them on ONE DVD to give to someone as a file so they can edit it the way they want to. I dont want any menus or anything, just the files, about 6.5 GB. If I go to properites, it says the type of file is a MOVIE CLIP and it opens with Windows media player.

thanks!

Angie

There is an option in Creator Classic to make the DVD Read Only. You cannot add additional files to the DVD if you choose that option, but that's probably not a concern. It won't affect being able to copy files from that DVD to your friend's hard drive.

If you want someone else to be able to edit that video, you're not going to want to 'squish' the video onto one DVD.

You could use DVD RW disks and reuse them once the other person has transferred the video to their computer. DVD RW disks are more expensive than DVD R disks and I've found it's not worth the cost if I'm giving them to someone else.

Let us know if that works to give the files to someone or if you need more help.

Good morning... Thanks... I was able to burn two seperate DVD's using Creator Classic. (I use Verbatim inkjet printable DVD+R's) A friend of mine is a professional videographer and he the video for my daughters christening. I asked him to just give me the footage and I would edit it myself. I remember he gave me one DVD with a huge AVI. file... I was hoping I could do the same thing with the footage I'm handing over to someone else... BUT... I got it on two DVD's and thats close enough for now. I have a larger capacity DVD on my shopping list.

NOW... I've run into a new problem... missing audio in part of the file that was copied to DVD... Audio is on the hard drive, just not on the DVD... Its always something. But I'll post a new thread on that if I cant figure it out...

Thanks for everyones help!

Are they in separate files or one large file?

Since they came from separate DVDs, they probably are different files.

Open Creator Classic and make a DATA DVD. ( Make certain that DVD is selected at the very bottom of the screen near the meter that shows how much room you have left on the DVD.)

Add the files from the upper window to the lower window and watch the progress meter. You'll get around 4.3 GBs on each 4.7 GB DVD.

With a 6.5 GB total, you're going to need two 4.7 GB DVDs unless you're burning Dual layer DVDs.

Copy the files to the hard drive. Once in hard drive, you can uncheck the read-only attribute and can now use for editing.

Hello... The read-only attributes are not checked... It said something in the Creator Classic dialog box that made me think its going to be a 'Read Only'... I cant check to find out for sure now because its in the process of burning..

Isnt there a way I can squish all these files on one DVD?

I forgot to answer ML's question about it being in one file... It was video off of 2 mini DV's.. so two different files on my computer.

Thanks! :)...

I tried to view the first DVD and its telling me that its a disc set that was split... I guess I'll have to try again doing each file seperatley on a disk.

I made this mistake a few days ago when trying to back up all my photos... I used about 13 DVD's and when I reviewed each one I got the same message and each DVD only showed the first set of photos on each DVD... So now I have 13 DVD's with the same files...LOL...

Altho generally Packet-Writing (Drag2Discc, DirectCD, Nero's InCD, Sonic's DLA, etc) is considered the best way to permantly LOSE files, using Disc Spanning is a very effective way to make them unrecoverable.

In both cases, using RW media will greatly increase the permancy of the disaster.

Lay the data out so that you have effectively already broken it into disc-sized pieces, and burn them separately - assuming you want to use the data afterwards.
