Error recording movie 80040207

Question

Just reinstalled 8.05 on a new computer. Dell Intell Core Duo Processor E6600 2.4GHz with 2GHz Ram

Error occurs immediately on clicking burn. I have two burners - Dell SATA OEM GSA H31N and HP 640c which is installed on a PCI IDE ATA133 card.

The error occurs only on the OEM drive. The HP drives burns to completion without a problem. The drivers on the OEM drive are up to date according to Dell. They are not available from the manfacturer.

Just for grins I installed 9.0 trial and the errors now occcurs on both drives. This is not a menu error, but I tried install the hotfix which made no difference.

I am reluctant to uninstall IE7 since the HP drive works.

The error also occurs trying to write to an ISO file only.

I was really disappointed that the problem became worse with 9.0 since I will be installing VISTA in the future (free from Dell) and apparently 8.0 will not work.

Any ideas?

If you want EMC8 to work as it should you will HAVE to uninstall IE7 and roll back to IE6.

This is down to MS making fundamental changes in the OS with the new browser

EMC9 will be updated after Vista is publicly launched (sometime at the end of this month or early February

IE7 and WMP11 are also (from reports coming in) also affecting EMC9 to a lesser extent and also other software (not Roxio)

I will try one time without IE7 - however since one drive works and the other does not ...

The fun never ends. Everything is now working. I added another DVD Writer via USB and installed nothing. However, the LG errored the first time I tried it. I tried the other two writers and they worked fine. Went back to the LG and it worked. Rebooted and tried again - everything worked. Reinstalled WMP11, rebooted and everything still worked. Reinstalled IE7 and everything worked.

Next day everything still works. I have no idea why? Tried different projects and no errors.

40 years in IT software development and SW/HW just doesn't normally fix themselves. I wonder how long this will last! At this point I'll just be happy.

By the way, I will upgrade to 9 soon. I find it significantly faster than 8 encoding and burning.

Rolled back to IE6 and uninstalled WMP11 - no change. The same errors and same results. HP drive burns in 8 and not in 9 and the LG drive burns in neither.

The LG manufacturer site states it does not provide firmware for OEM drives - only DELL in this case. DELL site shows the latest firmware B106 which I have installed. This DELL was built 3 weeks ago.

The video card is a Nividia GEForce 7900 GS 256MB with the latest Nividia drivers.

My only other thought at this point is to try jumping up and down on DELL and see what their reaction is.

I can see the fingers pointing now.
