Saving Edited File...

asandull

Question

Hello all... here is what I need advice on... I've got this great footage, very nice quality but when I edit it, save the file and view it, it looks very grainy. So what settings to you recommend I use for best quality. I've tried saving as AVI and using BEST QUALITY, I've tried saving as WINDOWS MEDIA at BEST and I've tried both at MEDIUM. Does anyone recommend saving as MPEG-I or MPEG-II... or anything different?

I think I remember someone saying at some point that BEST isn’t always BEST quality, which I'm finding out now...

To capture the video I used the plug ( I don’t know what its called) that goes directly into the camcorder and then into a dazzle video input thingy using the red, white and yellow plugs. Does that cord have a name?

Should I buy a fire wire or S-Video wire for better quality?

Thanks to those who've read this and try to help!

Oh, and can you please respond as if your giving directions to a five year old... I'm really that mentally challenged... LOL... :)

With that new camcorder of yours, you most definitely want to purchase a good firewire cable and capture to your computer through that way. Don't buy a cheap cable, either. A decent 6' long one will run you in the neighborhood of $40.

Angie,

here is a link to a bit of info on Firewire and the types of "pins"

http://www.simplydv.co.uk/infobase/about_firewire.html

AHHH... thank you!!!! I was on the phone with compusa, where I bought the computer, they had NO IDEA... Now I've been on with gateway for 15 minutes waiting...lol... So... based on the picture in this link, it looks like I'll need the 4 to 6...

Thank you so much for help... I appreciate it very much! Have a great day!

That's a Sony camcorder, isn't it?

Buy the Sony IEEE 1394 (firewire) cable. Most stores that sell camcorders will have the Sony cable or you can get it online. There are two kinds with different ends on the side that connects to the camcorder, so make certain you get the correct one.

Of course, if you don't have an IEEE 1394 port on your computer, you'll need to add a card.

When you capture, you'll be given the option to capture in mpeg2 or DV AVI. Choose DV AVI.

You're certain that you've got an IEEE 1394 port on that computer? The IEEE 1394 port looks a lot like a USB port, but it's not as wide or flat. Unless you've got the 4 pin which looks like it's got a dent in the side of it.

Thanks... Yes, I have two of them in the front... :)
