Write Failure Notification

gcdyer

Question

I am trying to copy of DVD made from 8mm film and copied by a commercial firm to a DVD. I have two DVD drives on my cmputer and I get the following error message when the copying is starting:

Media Status Notification for drive H:\: Write failure notification.

What does this mean?

Could the DVD have copy protection of some kind?

Use disc copier to copy the source (the DVD made from 8mm film)

to the destination, format as file or folder to the hard drive.

If that works the disc is ok. Now reburn from the hard drive to a disc.

Thank you for your reply re my Write Disc Failure issue.

I did everything that you suggested:

-Use Disc Copier

-Write to a DVD Burner (HP 604i)

-Use TDK unformatted discs

-Unloaded the DVD Burner and reinstalled

-Updated the firmware to the burner

-Use IE7 and WMP 11

That solved my problem. Thanks.

Now, I copied a disc that I had burned through a photo shop. They have VDO files. My questions:

1-I copied the disc and it plays well on my computer. I take the copied disc to my Panasonic DMR-ES46V Recorder and it will NOT play.

2- I CAN play the disc on my older Pioneer 505 DVD player. Why? How do I get the files to play?

2-How do I copy and/or clip VBO files to make my own productions.

Thanks, again, for your advice.

VBO or VOB ? If they are VOB files, just copy them to your computer. Set Windows so that it does not hide extensions. Change the name of the file to --(whatever it is called).mpg. You should able able to use those files directly in VideoWave.

As to why the disc will not play on the new one - I'm not sure of the technical terms but basically the computer and the old player are more lenient in what they will play. The new one is more particular. Make sure it will play the format for the blanks disc you selected. When you start making and burning your own productions, you will use MyDVD to burn; burn to an iso file (image) and then copy that iso file to the DVD blanks at some speed lower than the max. No guarantee but that seems to work for a lot of people.

Forgive me if some of the following is obvious; I have no way of knowing your computer experience.

I hope you are using Disc Copier, Creator Classic or copy from the home menu and not D2D.

That error usually means that the burner that you are writing to is having a problem. First thing to check is to see if it will write to the DVD blank format that you are using + R or -R. Will it even burn to a DVD or it just a CD burner? Some internal burners will read both DVD and CD but will only write to CD. The error could also mean that the burner is failing.

Make sure you are using a good quality DVD blank and that you have not formatted it.

Use Windows to remove that burner; reboot and let Windows XP reinstall it.

If you have done the above and you are still getting an error, update your burner's firmware. You must follow the instructions exactly; short cuts could lead to you to an electronics store to buy a replacement for the burner.

Post your "H" burner information - make and model number and perhaps we can find out more information for you. Also just in case; If you have either IE7 or WMP 11 on your computer, roll them back to the earlier versions.
