'Convert Video' : AVI to MPG

johndoc

Question

I used the 'Convert Video' option in EMC9 to convert 4 AVIs to MPEGs.

The MPEG files now have a band across the bottom which says 'Lead MPEG2 Eval Decoder (2.0'

Can anyone explain how on earth this band got there and how I get rid if it?

My goal is now to take these 4 MPEGs and create a DVD (without the band across the bottom, obviously!).

I will appreciate any and all assistance.

Many thanks

Can I use 'Create DVD' in EMC9 to take these 4 AVIs and directly create a DVD disc without first converting the AVIs to MPEGs?

I thought I had to create the MPEGs first! I have been a TMPGEnc user for a long time.

Thanks.

If you are going to do any editing to those files, use VideoWave. Once you are done editing, save your project as a name you will remember and to a folder outside of the Roxio program, preferably on another partition.

Then, close VideoWave, and open MyDVD. Click on the add movie button, browse for your production, bring it in, do any authoring (menu and such) work, then burn your production to a DVD, image file, or folder set.

Keep in mind that size of the .avi files means nothing. It is the total length in time that counts. You will get 1 hour of video, at best quality, to a standard 4.7GB DVD.

Thank you james_hardin & grandpa bruce for your assistance.

I have one last thing to ask: can you cast an eye over my system specs and give a view on whether or not you think I am 'underpowered' for using EMC9.

Thing is, I find EMC9 to be a near total resource-hog when converting or burning video.

Many thanks.

Your video card may be a bit weak, but it should still work ok, if you install the latest drivers from the ATI site.

Also turn off RoxWatch and Drag to Disc, via msconfig.

What is wrong with just using the AVI's?

The 'band' sounds like a trial version of a codec you downloaded but did not buy.

When you Burn it will then render them into the format required for the type of Project selected.

VW allows you to 'Output As' is you want to take a clip to a specific format, say AVI to mov.

Likewise, all editing done in VW will never alter your original clip unless you choose Output As and overwrite it. Normally you just use Save (dmsm) then go into MyDVD and pick the dmsm file when Add New Title.

The project files, dmsm for VW and dmsd for MyDVD, are like a set of notes that will apply the edits you have done when the project is rendered.
