Lightscribe labeling not working...

MichiganRich

Question

Hey there-

PowerMac G5 1.6, Tiger 10.4.8, newly purchased Toast 8 w/Disc Cover RE. New LG GSA-H10L multi-format drive, hooked up through FireWire. New stack of Verbatim Lightscribe media.

Toast 8 burns okay, no problems with burning to the media. It sees the drive no problem.

Okay, now that the details are out there, why in the &*!$% does Disc Cover RE suck so bad? First off it hangs and crashes. Then it's sluggish when designing a cover. Then it gives me a "Lightscribe device is not ready to print..." alert box when I try to print to the disc. What can I try to get this thing to work? GRRRR with Toast I expect it to work. Plain and simple, out of the box. This is a crappy user experience, makes me feel like I'm banging my head against some cheap-a$$ Windows junk.

At 38 years old, I'm not a novice in any stretch. I've been working with and maintaining Macs and burners for my paycheck since 1994. This isn't a volume control thats turned down or a cable thats unplugged.

It‘s the same with me: Disc Cover RE does not work perfectly. I cannot print to my Samsung lightscribe-dvd-recorder. Instead it does some preparation, but then it crashes. It‘s not a matter of the burner or my system, as this "simple labeler“ from the lightscribe-website works without a hazzle and burns perfectly. So does the LaCie-software (though it‘s not a LaCie-recorder!).

When I go to the Disc Cover RE-website they are trying to sell me an upgrade to the full version, but they do not have an upgrade for my Disc Cover RE 1.3.3 that adresses the problem.

So the LaCie-software is the best deal. Thanks, steedyweedy!
