audio files normalization

bearlight

Question

How does one normalize a group of audio files in EMC9 so that the volume of the music is pretty much even between songs from different sources? I've tried normalizing it under Music Disc Creator and Sound Editor, but to no avail. The same loud songs continue to play louder than others that weren't as loud.

I posted a suggestion for the MDC problem in your other post so see that.

When I try the normalizing feature, it appears to work for me though I can say I had trouble finding songs that were very much different in loudness so it was hard to tell. It sounds to me that you are doing everything right in SE. I'm not sure how much the audio drivers play in the normalizing feature but you should make sure you have the latest drivers anyway.

Paul,

Getting the system to load the MDC program worked just like you said it would. I also followed a suggestion posted by another member regarding cleaning the registry files and that also worked. It's not easy when one is starting out to become adjusted to the program. Therefore, I thank you both for sharing your EMC 9 expertise with me.

Using the Home menu, click on Options and then select the Audio?Audio CD and check the box. I don't know if this effects Music Disc Creator though but only the Audio CD functions in the Home menu.

Glad you sorted things out. I don't know why the MDC problem happens but sometimes it just does and it's good to have a workaround.

Question bearlight, exactly how did you normalize in MDC and SE? The way Terry suggested? I'm not sure what you did that didn't work.

Paul,

On "MDC," I clicked on Options, Audio EQ, and checked the "normalize tracks to a consistent level" (volume level 90%). Nonetheless, the discrepancy in volume levels between the songs was just too noticeable when I played the CD after it was created.

Problem now is that I can't even open MDC anymore! For some strange reason, I get a prompt saying: "Please wait. Loading components," but it doesn't go anywhere. Ten minutes after it is still loading. I've since removed and re-installed EMC 9 from the store-bought discs, but to no avail (it also took over 2 hours to re-install). I used RecordNow for years and had no problem with it which is why I invested in EMC9, but I'm seriously beginning to think it is the WORST software purchase I've ever made. A lot of claims are made by Roxio that are simply not supported by the application's performance.

On SE, After "selecting all" files from Edit, I clicked on Tools, Fading & Volume, then "maximize volume," and "normalize" (together, and each one separately). I was burning the audio files to a rewritable CD in the WAV format - which the application prompt claims is the best mode for a music CD. Sound Volume was not normalized.

What next? Thanks.
