subtitle display on tv

Question

I am using disk copy to copy avi files with english subtitles. When run on computer files work correctly displaying the subtitles. When played with a dvd player on a tv the display in enlarged and the subtitles are off the screen. Any ideas on what I am doing wrong.

You are not doing anything wrong, what you are experiencing is Overscan. A computer screen displays all of a video while a TV screen only displays about 85%.

One workaround is to place a color panel (black) on the main track in Videowave. Then put your avi video on the overlay track. You will have to extend the duration of the black panel to match the avi video on the overlay track. Then open the overlay editor and using the Zoom function shrink the avi video down to about 85%. After burning to a DVD you should see your subtitles. You should experiment with a short clip and use a RW DVD until you get the correct % to use.

 

The above method I have used with EMC 7.5 but I think it should also work in EMC 9.
