A first stab at a DVD create process

Question

First , this discussion group is fantastic. Thank you.

Bona fide newbie and dated to boot.

However I am glad that I kept that copy of EMC7 Basic DVD that came with my burner a while back and am very pleased that my system seems to be powerful enough and have the capacity to complete a DVD project.

the process that I ended up employing below : observations and critical advice is welcomed. please.

DV video on Minidisk

Capture Divx video format from Minidisk (from PC DVD)

Edit Video in Windows Movie Maker and Export to WMV

Import to DVD builder

Burn to Disk

I have no idea if it's very efficient.

and there's that pesky ac3 audio - the version EMC7 DVD builder I'm running does not allow. Which seems to negate the possibility of using MPEG format that EMC captures.

And I have to admit I've yet to try to use Videowave, after reading all of the features not included in the Basic version of EMC7 DVD I am not liking my chances.

Camcorder does have firewire out. have not tried that.

Shoot video using extra fine 16:9 aspect. But suspect that the process I am using results in a 4:3 aspect with something less than extra fine.

thanks for any insights

Capturing from the DVD to the computer will give you the best video. Firewire is good if you're capturing from a camcorder that records to minidv tapes.

EMC 7 doesn't support 16:9. There is a trial version of version 9 that does support it.

AC3 is supported by the full version of 7, 8, and 9, but not by most Basic versions.

I'd suggest that you make certain your computer exceeds the specifications for version 9 and try the trial version of 9. ( You can post your computer specs in the EMC 9 forums if you need advice on whether your computer will be able to use it.)

Oh yes , I could use some advice about that. From reading other posts it appears that contiguous free space on the HD is crucial.

thanks
