Formatting DVD+RW for Windows

TomH

Question

I recently upgraded from Easy CD Creator 5 to EMC 9.

With Easy CD Creator 5, I was able to format a CD-RW or DVD+RW so that Windows could write data to it. I have not been able to figure out how to do that with EMC 9. I have wasted many DVDs trying.

Is there an easy way to format a CD-RW or DVD+RW for Windows to write to it?

Use Creator Classic, and there is no formatting involved, and your data is safer. It is even safer if you use CD-R or DVD+R/DVD-R discs.

I have a Windows script that I use to do the actual copying.

Therefore, I am not using Creator Classic to do the actual copying.

However, I need the DVD+RW to be formatted so that Windows can manage the copying.

Is it possible to just format the DVD+RW so it appears as a disc in Windows?

What you are talking about is using a "Packet-writing" software to format the discs. In v5 that was called DirectCD. In EMC 9 it is called Drag To Disc. To use the EMC 9 version, you will have to format (or re-format) the discs, as v5 DirectCD formatted discs are not witable using DragToDisc in EMC 9.

Note that each "brand" and often versions within a "brand" (like Nero InCD, Sonic DLA, Roxio DirectCD and Drag To Disc) are proprietary and are not interchangeable.

You are also likely to see many posts here in regards to the reliability of such software. Most of the regular users here do not use or recommend the use of packet writing for permanent storage or backup of data.
