Audio & video out of synch

handycam_dcr_dvd405

Question

I have been producing DVDs with MyDVD 9 but can't get the audio and video to synch consistently. My outputs have been directly to DVD, and to .iso files.

I have a powerful machine - DELL XPS Gen 3 3.4GHz w/3.25 GB RAM.

The video files I start with are .VOB format from my Sony DVD Handycam DCR-DVD405 camera. I am outputting in both MPEG and AVI formats using VideoWave 9.

I have switched between optimizing audio and not. I have disabled all of the services from loading at startup.

Nothing works, and the problem seems to occur randomly (but unfortunately the vast majority of the time).

Your help is appreciated,

Scott

Pam: Nothing stupid about it! The vob files are the extension give to mpg files when they are burned onto a DVD. They are found in the VIDEO_TS folder of the DVD Movie.

VW will load them directly from the DVD but there are cases where this does not work out as expected. As a result you would want to try using Media Import and point it to your disc. It takes longer this way but if the other way isn't working, this may be the way to go.

In picture below I have Media Import looking at a DVD with 2 Titles on it.

"Movie 1" is a movie whereas "Extra 1" is a slideshow. The 3rd item, "Extra 2", is actually the menu structure, theme, menu buttons, etc.

Do you delete any of the scences you capture in the right side window while you are captureing? If you did....Try reCapturing and DO NOT delete any of the scences. If you want to edit them, do so in Videowave. It worked for me.

Hi dvdmama13,

I have not tried deleting or editing scenes in any way, but am simply adding the .vob file to a new production in VideoWave, then outputting to either .avi or .mpeg.

Thanks,

Scott

You may want to try some of the usual cures for this. One is to defrag the HD just prior to attempting to render the project.

Another thing you could try would be to Capture the vob, rather than just adding it.

Both of these suggestions are time consuming but are tests to help to isolate the cause.

james_hardin,

You're gold! I had been defragging, so that wasn't it. What seems to have done the trick is Capturing the .vob files, rather than editing and outputting them. I think I've got some work to do yet to perfect the final product, but the difference is tremendous!

Many thanks!

:) Scott
