One Solution for "The current output device was removed"

sierratech.net

Question

Last night I was attempting to render my ISO file using MYDVD and at 1% I kept getting the following error:

"The current output device was removed"

Cryptic message!

Here is how I resolved it:

The project was a slideshow with 117 photos (JPEGS scanned and fixed from PhotoShop CS2). The Photos and the music were stored on an external USB drive. I had read on the forum that USB can create this error message (seems strange to me).

Here is what I did........

1) My external drive case was one that I purchased previously which has both Firewire & USB (I had installed a SEGATE Drive inside the housing). I moved the connection from USB HUB to my laptop's Firewire connection.

2) This did not initially solve the problem however, and MYDVD locked up.

3) I closed down (forcefully) MYDVD and of course sent to Microsoft (I'll bet Microsoft will start charging Roxio for all the reported error messages).

4) I restarted MYDVD, and successfully rendered my first video under EMC 9 (painful process to say the least).

5) This morning the rendering was 100% complete, so I burned the ISO to my DVD, and it works.

I'm not sure why USB causes such a problem, and the error message is pretty cryptic "The current output device was removed", however at least in version 9 you get an error message. The whole reason I jumped to version 9 was because MYDVD stopped working in version 7.5.

This software reminds me of WordPerfect 6 Release where you could use it for no more than 5 minutes without suffering from a catastrophic failure. I just hope ROXIO resolves these issues soon, or I will have to restore my Cloned Hard Drive and go with NERO 7.5 and Adobe Premier.

Cheers!

Another Name for "Bit Bucket" :D

Unfortunately the dreaded "The current output device was removed" :D appears to have other sources then just USB! I've also been getting these errors and my disks are NOT connected by USB!

I had first thought it was a DVD media problem but finally realized Roxio software never was getting that far along in the process. :)

While I was once again preparing my project for burning and was browsing for an image to add as my menu background I did notice one thing which may or may not be related. On 3 separate times I received an Email in the background and the Roxio application appeared to reset it's current directory from the one I was browsing in back to "My Documents". It's like Roxio forgot it's current path. If it hadn't happened 3 separate times I wouldn't have noticed it. Unfortunately I've been unable to duplicate this action on purpose. Only thing I get when I try is a brief jump in the directory listing display. It might just be a fluke in the timing of the events. Turning my USB printer on or off will also cause this blip in the on screen directory display but not reset it to to "My Documents" when I've tried to make it.

I shutdown my email program and my USB printer for the two hours it took to create and burn my project. Shorter projects haven''t had any problems for me, so far, as long as they fit on a CD. It's only been DVD output in excess of 1Gb that I've seen this error.

I'm beginnig to suspect that Roxio software just "doesn't play well with others" and wants to be the only application running during any DVD burn project. At least so far....

It does appear for some, USB devices can cause this but I can't duplicate it. Maybe a chipset driver update helps some.

As for sending errors to Microsoft, I have it on good authority that all those messages are sent to the Cassini spacecraft that is orbiting Jupiter.:)

You might want to shut down other processes that you have running, too. :D

I hate to be the one that has to tell you this Paul but Cassini is orbiting Saturn not Jupiter...lol.Maybe that's why the messages seem lost in space, the address is wrong.
