grandpabruce,

What seems to have done the trick is Capturing the .vob files, rather than editing and outputting them. I think I've got some work to do yet to perfect the final product, but the difference is tremendous!

For reference, see my other thread: http://forums.support.roxio.com/index.php?...amp;#entry88303

Out of curiosity, why is it available to output a production to .avi or .mpeg2 in VideoWave...what's the purpose?

Appreciate all of your help!

Scott

You are welcome, and I hope it all continues working okay for you.

In earlier versions of the Roxio suites, some folks had luck with keeping sound and video in sync by outputting it to an .avi file in VideoWave, when they had sync problems when they took their .dmsd files into DVD Builder for burning.

I have used the VideoWave output to an .avi file to use in DVDit Pro, a few times. If a person wants to put their production up on the web, so family members can download it, they output the production to a .wmv file, because the file size is small. Of course, the quality suffers, but quality doesn't always matter.

Okay, before you output your production to .avi or .mpeg2 (which you should not do, anyway), does it preview in sync in VideoWave?

If so, save your production, close VideoWave, open MyDVD, then click on Add New Movie, browse to the .dmsm file that you just saved, and bring it in. (Don't select the .avi or .mpeg2 files you created before.)

Do whatever menu work that you want, then burn your production to an image (ISO) file or to a Folder set. Don't burn directly to a disc.

Then use Disc Copier to burn your production to a disc. Hopefully, you have no audio/video sync problems.

Hi grandpabruce,

When I preview my production (containing a single .vob file) in VideoWave it looks spot on - video and audio are perfectly in synch, picture looks great.

I followed your instructions and saved my production, closed VideoWave, opened MyDVD, then clicked on Add New Movie, browsed to the .dmsm file that I just saved, and brought it in. (I did not select the .avi or .mpeg2 files I created before. In fact, I deleted them before I started.).

I just kept the basic menu MyDVD created as I added the file for the sake of the experiment. Preview of the DVD production in preview mode looks great, just like in VideoWave. I burned the production to a 2GB .iso file. Then I used Disc Copier to burn my production to a 4.7 GB DVD+R disc.

The Project Settings were as follows:

Menu aspect ratio: 4:3

Standard: NTSC

Movie Buttons...Play Movie Only

Set as default for new productions

Constrain button aspect ratio

Pre-render menus in preview

Preset: High Quality (HQ)

Video: 720x480

Bitrate (MB/s): 9.0

Interlaced

Audio: Dolby Digital AC3

Bitrate (Kb/s): 448 Kb/s

I popped the disc into the DVD player and no joy. The video and audio are out of synch, the video is blurry/jittery.

Any ideas?

Scott

Haven't got a clue. You provided no information that will aid in you getting help.

Thanks grandpabruce. Sorry about that, I get to the point where I can't think anymore...I have had this software since November and haven't yet had any success...and the Roxio support has been downright disheartening.

I am using VideoWave 9 to edit a .VOB file created using my Sony Handycam DCR-DVD405. I first copy the entire VIDEO_TS folder from the camera's disk to my hard drive. Then, I create a new production in VideoWave 9 and add the .VOB file to the project.

I have output the file in both AVI and MPEG-2 format to hard disk. AVI replays without trails, but the audio is off synch with the video. MPEG-2 is horribly traily and audio is out of synch.

I have adjusted several settings in both formats before saving, including normalizing/not normalizing the audio. I have tried both hardware and software rendering.

I have used the software provided by Sony to save the .VOB as an MPEG and it turns out great every time - so I know the file is good quality! Only problem is Easy Media 9 can't do anything with the MPEG produced by the manufacturer-provided software, so I can't make compilations, add menus, etc..

Your help is appreciated!

Scott
