Set default to open with Videowave version 9

dvdmama13

Question

I have Roxio Media Creator 9 and Roxio Media Creator 7 installed.

I created a .dmsm file using Videowave in Media Creator 9. I later went into 'My Documents' and double clicked on the file to open it assuming it would open in with Videowave version 9.... It opened it using Videowave from Media Creator 7. I closed the file without ever saving it.

Now if I start running Videowave version 9 using that file it errors out and will not open it.

TWO questions.... Anything I can do with my file to get it to work using the version 9? AND how can I make Videowave version 9 the default when I double click the file name to open the file so I do not have this problem again?

Been there, done that. Unfortunately, I do not think there is anything you can do to salvage your V9 project. I had to start over. Another lesson for me to always save the same project with two different names.

To make V9 the default application, try this:

1. Click My Computer and navigate to a dmsm project. I suggest using a "test" project.

2. Right click on the dmsm icon and select Properties

3. Click the General tab, click the "Change..." button opposite "Open With" and select Videowave 9

4. Now double click the file and Videowave 9 should open the file.

Note: After completing the above steps, any dmsm files created in V7 will now be opened by V9. So the same corruption of a V7 file may happen.

I tried it and the Open With worked. But then I closed and double clicked and it opened with V7 again. Any other ideas?

Did you follow all the steps? You have to click "Properties" after the right click on the icon. If you select Open With instead of Properties, the change action is for that file only and for only one time. That may explain why it did not work to establish V9 as the default for all dmsm files.

Try following the step by step instructions again or try Daithi's post.
