No audio in DVD editor after converting from TP to MPEG2

kcz

Question

I record shows with Fusion 5 Gold and save them as TP. I then remove commercials with HDTVtoMPEG2. The new MPEG2 files, when brought to DVD editor have no audio. If I use them to burn a DVD, there is no audio either. The same MPEG2 files play just fine in WMP 11. BTW, the audio format is AC3.

If I use VideoReDo on MPEG2 files (after converting them from TP with HDTVtoMPEG2) and save them with a different audio format, I can burn DVDs with DVD editor just fine. But I would prefer to avoid this extra step because, after all, EMC 8 should support AC3, should't it?

I've read somewhere on this forum that this could be related to IE7. What's the story on this?

IE7 and WMP 11 are known to cause problems for some in Roxio and other programs. Neither are on my computers, and I have no problems.

Thanks. I will try to uninstall IE7 and WMP11 tonight. But before I do, would you please confirm that EMC8 indeed supports AC3 and that conversion I'm doing should also work?

One thing I forgot to mention is that the original TP files, when opened in DVD editor and converted by EMC (is it VideoWave that does the conversion) do have audio. Only when I use HDTVtoMPEG2 to remove commercials does the audio "disappear." So I wonder how this could be related to IE7/WMP11.

Depends on what version you have. If you got one of the LE versions with the purchase of a burner or a computer, I think some of those needed to have the AC3 downloaded. If you have the EMC Suite or the Deluxe Suite, then yes the program supports AC3. It is perhaps all in the codecs and their priority and maybe HDTVtompg2 program. IE7 and WMP 11 breaks more programs than just Roxio's.

Why are you using HDTV to MPG2 rather than just putting the files into VideoWave and cutting out the commercials there ? My mistake, V9 does HDTV, I don't remember if V8 does.

I have a retail version of Roxio Easy Media Creator 8 Suite. I use HDTVtoMPEG2 because it removes commercials and converts to MPEG2 very quickly. But I guess I may have to do this by hand from now on if going back to IE6 doesn't fix the problem.
