Drag-to-Disc

Paranoid Android

Question

I installed 7.5 from CD, had the same issues as below, got the engine update and reinstalled. In one post someone suggested installing the update before rebooting after installing from the disc, so that's what I did. Istill get the same error messages:

Drag-to-Disc could not start because components necessary to run are missing. Please re-install Drag-to-Disc.

If I try and start Creator Classic:

I get Dragon Engine Initialization failed.

Is this a problem with Windows updates to XP? Are there any solutions other than buying version 9?

Thanks to anyone who can help.

I tried those Run commands, they didn't work for version 6 and now not for 7.5 as well.

I think I've tried most combinations of the suggestions, for which, thanks again.

There is no point in trying to upgrade to EMC 9, before you solve the problems you are having now. I can almost guarantee that you will have problems with version 9, if you don't get your current problems fixed.

There's a ray of hope there, Bruce. In trying to fix the registration issue as well as this one, I found there's a way of buying version 9 for $69.00 and getting free tech support over the phone for 30 days. Roxio's view is that they don't want to support old versions. Like other users with these issues, I wonder why the simple things don't work.

As Bruce said - if you are going to try installing EMC9 you could end up magnifying the problems

9 is a LOT more demanding on resources than 7 and if you have problems now, they will be worse with 9

Additionally, with the fact that you ARE having problems as you describe, EMC7 will have to be TOTALLY cleaned out first

Yup, it sounded crazy, so I tried it. Sadly, same result.

All I really want is Creator Classic, but if it takes version 9, Oh Well.

Thanks anyhoos,

Another option:

WinXP has a built in CD burning capability so if all you want to do is burn CDs, you don't need another program. To learn how to do it, in WinXP Help type "Copy files to a CD"

That bugs me as well, especially when there are all these features that I don't want or need.

If there any other suggestions, please let me know. I have XP Professional SP2 on an HP Pavilion Notepad, AMD Turion 64 processor.

Is the Operating System 32 or 64? :)

Software doesn't operate in a vaccuum.

There is the Operating System (altho since you are posting about V.7.5 I would assume WinXP or Win2000), other software, other parts of the system such as the amount of RAM, speed of the processor, amount of available space.

It could be you have another burning program, with its own Packet-Writer - which would fight for control of the burner and cause a lot of problems. It could be you've updated to I.E. 7 or WinPlayer 11 - which is a pretty good way to "break" EMC 7 or 7.5 (solution - unstall I.E. 7 and WinPlayer 11).

However, since ALL Packet-Writing programs (Drag2Disc, Nero's InCD, Sonic's DLA, etc) seem to be best at permantly LOSING data, I'm not sure why you'd want to install any of them.

Hi Lynn,

Version 6 bombed when I upgraded to IE 7, but reversing that (and dealing with a string of other consequences) didn't allow me to reinstall Version 6. It does seem to be basically the same problem, which is why I suspect XP upgrades.

Oh well, version 9 it is.

Thanks for taking the time to respond, have a great w/e.

As far as the Dragon Engine problem goes, this is going to sound crazy but try this

Go to

http://www.napster.com/

download and install Napster - then uninstall it again

An older version of Napster was installed along with 7.5 - usually updating it fixes the problem and then when you uninstall it from Add/Remove Programs, the problem stays cured
