Emc 8 Install Failure (still)

lljo2

Question

I posted this problem back in early December as "Insufficient privileges"

I purchased the version 8 upgrade, via the email I received, getting the download and the "backup" CD.

When I try to install v8 via the download, I get a message about having insufficient privileges to install for all users, so it will not allow me to install the software. I am an admin on my laptop, so this make no since. Also, why can't I install it just for me?

I just got my CD's today and tried installing from the CD and it doesn't even get as far as the downloaded version. I am getting the fllowing:

Setup encountered an error during installation.

Error Code: 000D

Do any Roxio people look at these boards? Can anyone help me?

Larry

I don't have an answer for you but when I google the error, I see instances of keyboard problems:

Error

but, I wonder if maybe the serial is not input correctly. Maybe an "O" instead of a zero or vice versa.......really grabbing at straws here.

Chances are there is a problem with your user profile.... can you try creating a new user account, logging in as that user and then running the installation?

Well, it's not my user profile. I have now tried installing the upgrade on my desktop computer, using the CD and am getting the same exact error message. So it will not install on either my laptop or my desktop.

I've had the exact same problem. The file on the backup CD isn't any good. The windows installer causes some files to be overwritten during the unpack process. This means that when setup runs, it can't find all the needed files.

I unpacked the file using Winzip (it is a zipped file) and tried to install it that way. Then I found that most of the executibles were missing. The unzipped package didn't include a cab file or any exe files.

I just got a refund credited to my credit card a few minutes ago. I think that Roxio support is seriously lacking.

I may have to look into a refund as well, how did you obtain yours?

Call Element 5 at 800-406-4966. You have 30 days. I had ordered mine on 12/9 and received the Backup CD's on 12/31. Spend the hoiday weekend struggling with it and attempting to get a response from Roxio Support. They e-mailed me a notice of credit on my credit card within 10 minutes. I may try to get the retail version. Actually, I think it may be cheaper from Costco and they also have a $20 rebate!!!
