Trapper

Question

I've load Toast 8 , went to set up checked the tivo transfer check off and registered product . Next I went to extra to launch tivo transfer to enter my media access key !! the little tivo guy jumps up twice and error say unable to find file ?? I see the tivo icon on my preferences but unable to launch from there as well . Roxio support said I had a problem with my computer , after an hour at the Apple store they say no problem with my iMAC G5 ?? I've reloaded the software with the same results . So now what can I do ?? Help please :)

Has anyone figured this out yet? I cant get tivo to go to launch anymore. I resorted to TiVoDecode mangaer but really .....I DID PAY MONEY.... to upgrade to toast 8 for this feature. Ugh.:angry:

No one from Roxio ever got back to me. I also sent a message directly to "Patatrox" but received no reply. And I refuse to pay half the cost of the product to talk to someone.

Several people from the TiVo discussion boards could only tell me that it is a java problem. I too have resorted to TiVi Decode manager. But even after that, I was sad to find that the quality of the download is no better than iPod quality. It appears the video has purposely been degraded. I now avoid using Toast and tiVo at all. Using something like EyeTV produces much better results when I want to save something to DVD.

I have the exact same problem, and I'm an IT guy! I have a MacBook Pro running 10.4.8 with current updates. I just bought Toast 8, installed it, and am eager to pull something off my TiVo. When I run the TiVoTransfer application, either from Toast Extras menu, or the app itself, it just bounces in the Dock and then disappears (fails to launch.)

Console displays the following:

Mac OS X Version 10.4.8 (Build 8N1051)

2007-01-30 19:21:46.307 TiVo Transfer[328] AppKitJava: terminating.

Also in Terminal when I run 'java', I get a message about Usage and options (seems ok.)

Any suggestions? Seems like nonworking software to me. Did Roxio do much testing before launching this at Macworld?

Hello again and thanks for trying to help ,

I've tried to re-launch Tivo transfer again , but no success . I opened the HD and then Applications I then opened Toast 8 Titanium but not the program . The screen displayed ; CD Spin Doctor / Disc cover / Disc Catalog / Motion Picture HD all on the bottom row . On the top row was Roxio Documentation / Toast Titanium / Tivo Transfer . When I double clicked on the Tivo Transfer the little guy appeared on my widget bar (where safari and mail hang out) jumped up and down 2 times and went away . Earlier I went to HELP and went through the Toast setup Assistance . re-entered my serial # /CD-key and put a check mark to enable Tivo Transfer . I then went to Extras and selected Tivo Transfer , now the little guy jumps only once on the widget bar . ( the very first time it told me it couldn't find the file, so I re-booted and this is were we are now ) . Have I done anything wrong ? I re-booted my Tivo I turned of my wireless connectors (airport) . I give up. :) Jim

Launching the app doesn't require a TiVo, so it isn't related to restarting your DVR or airport.

Can you please launch terminal and try running "java". Tell me if it displays an error message of some sort or if you see help commands.

Thanks

Hello all,

I am a veteran mac user from 1985, but am a novice forum user. I have been trying to solve this problem with little success. The description by the first poster in this discussion is the same as mine. I will detail as much as possible:

System: Power Mac Dual G5 1.8, 3GB RAM, OS X 10.4.10.

Most Used Software: Adobe Creative Suite 2, MS Office, Final Cut Studio, Eye TV, Visual Hub. In other words, lots of graphic and video editing software.

Problem: My wife wanted to copy some programming off of her Series 2 TiVo. I purchased the Wireless G adapter from TiVo and added it to our wired and wireless home network (Airport). I purchased Toast Titanium 8 because of the TiVo ToGo, Transfer, whatever they are calling it (I wish they could decide on a name!) Anyway, installed the softaware, updated to 8.0.1 and used setup to add TiVo Transfer. When trying to launch from the Extras menu, or directly from the Applications/Toast 8 Titanium folder, the app icon bounces a few time in the dock then disappears. When launched from Toast, it is accompanied by the message: "TiVo Transfer" could not be opened because it could not be found.

I contacted Roxio live chat twice who asked me to trash Toast (according to their instructions on their site) and reinstall. No help their. Searches on the web have produced a few discussions about the same problem, including here. But there do not seem to be any solutions.

I too reviewed Console which seems to indicate a JAVA error. But I am not versed enough to diagnose what is actually happening. I downloaded the newest JAVA software directly from Apple's site (not Software Update) and reinstalled it. No help there either. Here is the text from Console:

The TiVo Crash Log is quite long. I can send if you think it would help. Anyway, I'm stuck. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Unlike the previous poster, I am not interested in a refund, I want to make this work. I've solved much tougher conflicts than this!

Thanks,

Gary

Hi Folks - I believe I have a simple solution to the problem. Simply take the files out of the Toast folder and place each into the Applications folder separately. The instructions imply that one places the Toast folder in the Applications folder...this can prevent Toast from seeing the TiVo application. Odd, I know, but I reproduced the problem that trapper had, and this will solve it. Hope this helps. :)

I don't think there's anything wrong with my Tivo , Roxio support people said my computer had problems , I took it to the Apple store for a Tech Check out ?? My computer had NO problems . The Apple tech's tried to download Toast 8 and came-up with the same problem , "Tivo transfer wouldn't launch" . The problem is the flawed software . Now I'll see how well the Roxio "unconditional 30-day money back guarantee" works for all products purchased directly from Roxio via our online store or Inside Sales ? I hope it's better than the software . Sad , my kids are pissed :)

I'm not quite sure I'm following your steps and actual error.

Can you describe step by step how you're trying to launch TiVo Transfer and the exact error message?

Thanks

There is no option to launch TiVo Transfer from system preference, perhaps you mean from the Toast 8 Titanium folder in Applications? I'll check back later tonight, thanks!

I did ask you above to try running 'java' from the terminal and advise if there is an error message or normal help syntax listed. And secondly if you could look at the console ( Applications --> Utilities --> Console) log as you try launching TiVo Transfer and post any references to TiVo Transfer listed here.

thanks!

Have you tried power cycling (turning off/powering down and then restarting) the TiVo?

Did you try installing Toast and its extras properly? I.E. did you drag the "Toast Folder" off of the CD and into applications, or did you open the "Toast Folder" and drag all of the icons into applications?

(The second one is the correct method...)

Patatrox ,

I've recycled /re-booted (my computer , Tivo , TV , and my hot water tank) re-arranged my work schedule etc. My Roxio instructions mentioned NOTHING about Java This shouldn't be that hard or this much work . I just want my money back , it's been 48 hours and still haven't heard from the re-fund people . They must work in the tech support area when not giving refunds (if they really give re-funds) . I hope to hear from them someday . Buyer Be-Ware of Roxio software . Thank your all for your help with Roxio's flawed software . Trapper

ps if you know how I can get a quick re-fund , that would be good .
