Chapter Names in DVD Builder v7

A1Dan

Question

Is it possible to name chapters in DVD Builder v7? I saw a thread about doing it in 7.5, but it doesn't seem to work in v7.

If not, is there any other to achieve the effect?

I want to end up with a DVD that plays straigth through, but has named chapters I can select, like a commercial DVD.

It all depends what version of EMC 7 you have. Do you have the downloaded version, the Retail version (boxed), or the Basic version, which came bundled with a DVD burner or a computer?

It came with my DVD player, but I can't remember off hand whether it was a full retail version - will have to try and dig out the CD...

It wasn't a retail version, and you can't update the software, unless the manufacturer of the DVD burner has an update. The Basic version did not support renaming chapters.

I forgot all about having to double click to rename it. There were 3 main patches for EMC 7. The 3rd one was the one that fixed it so you could rename chapters, but it killed the ability to make an .iso over 2 hours long. :) There are always trade-offs.

I have been using Roxio Easy Media Creator for years. I am not a newbie to video editing. Two years ago, I have helped my little boy's Pre-School raise funds for Playground Equipments by making a Video/Picture Slide Show combination with transistions, background music and credits - the works. I have divided the scenes into chapters with titles so parents can also go directly to the scene they want to watch from the menu aside from just pressing play from their remote to watch the whole thing. I was surprised when you told me that it is not possible. I do appreciate you letting me know when you realized that I was right.

Yes, you can name the chapters in DVD Builder v7. When you manually mark the chapters, it gives you Chap 1, Chap 2, etc.. Just right click those and change the name. The only thing is you are limited to the amount of text you can put in.

Hope this helps.

Yeah, I could rename them in the 7.1.1.189 version. I don't have it on my computer, anymore, though. Prior to that patch, you couldn't do it.

As Bruce said, it depends on the version you have. If you have version 7.0 or 7.1, right clicking does NOT allow you to change the text of a CHAPTER. You can change the text under the Title on the main menu.

If you have version 7.5, you can change the text of the chapter.

I do appreciate you letting me know when you realized that I was right.

I made the mistake of following your directions and RIGHT clicking on the chapter title.

That does NOT work in 7.1....... You have to left click twice on the chapter title in order to get it to work. ( Unless, of course, your mouse is set up as nonstandard so that the right button does what the left button usually does.)

So you were right. It can be done....... just not the way you instructed in version 7.1. I haven't tested it in 7.5, but I believe it works the same way.

Darn, oh well, thanks for the info.

There isn't anyway of adding the chapters as seperate menu items, but still having them play continuously into each other, is there?

The 7.1.1.189 patch for EMC 7.0 fixed it so you could rename chapters. Any EMC 7 version, before that patch, did not have that capability, nor did any of the Basic versions that came with computers or burners. :)

It works the same way in 7.5; left click twice to rename chapter. (Actually its the same method as in most Windows programs)

Thanks for correcting me, Bruce.

I tested it incorrectly. You don't right click on the title, you left click twice on the 'Chap...' in version 7.1.... to rename it.

But, as you said, if they have the version that came with a DVD Burner, they've probably got an OEM version which doesn't have that capability.

Hi ml!

You know what, when I gave you the instructions, I wasn't working with Roxio. I just gave you some ideas as I recalled them. Did it hurt your project when you right click? In Windows, you right click normally when you need to rename things. I would be thankful if someone shares his/her knowledge with me. If there is a minor mistake, I won't dwell on it. Knowing that chapters can be renamed with both EMC 7 or 7.5 is what that is what counts.

I believe it is spelled out in the previous posts, in this thread, what version of EMC 7 you can rename chapter and how to rename the chapters.

Right clicking on the chapter name does nothing to hurt the project.

Nope. Your advice didn't hurt my project a bit. Also didn't allow me to change the chapter names.

It's no big deal and I won't dwell on it either, but you CANNOT rename the chapter menus in 7.0. Only if you have a version that can be updated to 7.1.+... or later, can you rename the chapters. There are so many different versions of EMC 7, that you really need to know the version in order to give correct advice.

Bruce was right on the mark with his questions and advice.

I don't know if this works for V7 and not sure if this is the same post you read but you may want to give it a try.

Cheers malatekid, but I'm thinking it might only work in 7.5 (not the same thread as I saw, but same idea). When I go to the mark chapters window, the chapters do not have a name beneath them (or anywhere else), they show only a still from the video, and the time of the chapter's start.

Hopefully someone familiar with V7 drops in to provide feedback.
