Emc8 Invalid Installation Message

taskmaster108042x

Question

After installing EMC8 I receive an unnumbered message saying 'This is an invalid installation. Please install again.' for most, but not all functions.

This is the boxed retail EMC8 VerC package.

I uninstalled version 7 prior to the initial install attempt.

Since then I have 'cleaned' up the registry to remove remnants of previous Roxio products.

Still the problem persists.

Also, the Contents disk is never requested during the install. Is this normal? If so, when does it get installed?

Also, I get a message block asking foe the CD key to activate a Sonic product (didn't take note of this one), but the CD key on the Program disk envelope is always incorrect.

Can anyone offer any assistance on these problems?

Having virtually the exact same issues. No luck to date with any of the solutions provided on the board or with getting a reply from support.

Anyone find a fix for this issue? I am having the exact same issues described above, and have not been able to find a solution that works.

I am having pretty much the same problems as taskmaster reports here and in this thread.

Main difference being that I installed to a new machine that never had a previous version of Roxio, or any other optical disk writing software (other than the built-in support in Windows XP SP2.)

I was asked for the Sonic Activation Code.

Most modules fail with an "invalid installation, please reinstall" message.

I am unable to get any response from the "register online" or "check for new version" menu items.

I was able to burn a data DVD, but was unable to view it until I tried the registry modifications others have suggested. Now I can access the data on the DVD but all other problems remain unchanged.

I filed a ticket with tech support but have heard nothing.

This appears to be some seriously broken software!

One thing I noticed, there seem to be two versions of the registry modification. I am not at my home PC so I can't recall exactly what they say, but there are two checkboxes for child permissions. One person said to check the top box and one person said to check the bottom one. I was able to check the top box, and this gave me the ability to read data off the DVD I burned. When I tried checking the bottom box, after hitting "apply", the check mark disappeared from the bottom box. I have been unable to make it stick. Can anyone shed any light on this?

And, does anyone know of any way to make this software work properly? The only things that don't seem to fail with the "invalid installation" message are data disk and audio disk.

Thanks for any help.

Please start a new thread. You are posting to a thread started in January where several posters have stated "almost the same problems". It is confusing to have to go back and try to determine what "the same problem" is.

Explain your problem in as much detail as possible, also include your system specs, especially video card/controller, the version of EMC 8 you have (Suite or Deluxe Suite).

Scott, try uninstalling all versions of Roxio on your machine. Then run Roxizap, maybe a couple times. You can get it here:

http://tools.roxio.com/support/tools/roxizap.exe

Also go to Microsoft's web site and download the Windows Install Cleanup Utility.Open it and if you see instances of Roxio there run the program on them.Once you've done all this reinstall and see if your troubles clear.

Try this for the error message:

http://forums.support.roxio.com/index.php?...id+installation

Once you get the program installs correctly, you can install the content cd. It will not ask you to install the content cd, you must insert it in your drive

Thank you for the help.

Following the 'Try this...' trail I get the following message trying retreive the last one.

Error while fetching document 4b854a8b66bc49538a1a065bc15a83b5_ee7000065.xml: -2147221164 Error: Code = 80040154 Code meaning = Class not registered Source = Description =

What is causing this?

Thanks.

I uninstalled all previous versions, used ROXIZAP, and (I think this is the key to my "success" if you can call all these attemps such) I made sure that the Roxio permissions in REGEDIT were set to "full control" BEFORE I re-installed EMC 8 for the umpteenth time.

Finally, I can access all of the components except CinePlayer (darn activation code), and I'm working on that.

Error- Certificate file missing / corrupted / not initialized error after installing EMC7 (Windows XP)

Thank you for your suggest fix, but it is written for win xp rather than win2000. Consequently the right click does not let me set the properties for the folder. Any other suggestion for this fix?

An error message has popped up: 1316.a network error occurred while attempting to read from the file D:\winnt\installer\Roxio easy media creator 8 suite.msi.

This is not on a network but my local drive where winnt is installed.

When I click ok on that uninstall/install aborts.

Thanks for your effort, Reiner.
