"Native Audio" disappears in VOB/MPG imports

Vanessa

Question

I'm just learning how to use VideoWave and here's my problem . . .

I have quite a few tv documentaries that have been recorded to DVD. I'd like to take clips from them to use for my research presentations. Here's what I'm doing . . .

1. Copy the VOB files to my external hard drive.

2. Change the VOB extention to MPG.

3. Import the new MPG files into VideoWave to edit, clip, etc.

Everything's working fine, however if I have a video that was longer than a half-hour and has more than one VOB file associated with it, the first VOB/MPG file will import fine, but the second, third, etc. file comes into VideoWave with no sound. I turned on the "native audio" layer, and it's missing in the second, third, etc. but is there in the first. The VOB/MPG files are fine otherwise -- I can play it in Windows Media Player and the sound is there.

Can anyone tell me what's happening and how I can get the sound to import correctly for the other VOB/MPG files?

Thanks!

Vanessa

I don't know why this is happening but, starting with V9, you do not have to rename the VOB files, just use them in the program. Some people have reported problems with copying and then using VOB files. This is usually solved by capturing the video from the disc. Longer but seems to work.

Even faster is to copy the folders from the DVD to the HARD DRIVE using the windows copy function.

Then CONVERT the folders from the HARD DRIVE to an MPEG file. The sound comes with it.

Can anyone talk me through how the copy from my DVD to the Hard Drive using the 'windows copy function'. Sorry, I'm new at this.

Right now I am running into the same problem as the Original Poster with the Native audio only being captured on the first portion from the DVD file.

That's Windows as in Microsoft Windows XP or Vista; not something in Roxio. On your hard drive, create a folder in a convenient place. Put the DVD in your DVD drive on the computer; cancel out of auto play if that starts. Explore the DVD, select the files on the disc and then copy them to that folder. You can drag them or you can select edit/copy to folder in the Windows Folder view.
