Having to start all over again after failed burning

macdude357

Question

Toast ran all night encoding my Tivo shows. When it came time to actually burn the dvd, the burn failed with a buffer underrun. Rather than allowing me to put in another disc and try again, it simply stopped the process. When I clicked the burn button again, it started to re-encode my Tivo shows again! Why can't I just re-try the burning step. I found some files in a folder called Roxio Converted Items so I thought that if I tried burning those, everything would be OK. However, when I did, Toast said that there was no audio in those files.

The fact that the burning failed isn't the real issue (I was able to burn Tivo files before). It's the fact that I had to start all over again that really is the problem.

The Converted Items hadn't been deleted yet (I'm pretty sure it only deletes them after you close the project or Toast which I hadn't done yet). I tried to burn them but Toast complained that there was no audio in those files.

Instead of clicking the burn button choose Save as Disc Image from the File menu. Then burn the disc image file to DVD using the Image File setting in the Toast Copy window. This prevents any chance that a failed burn would require starting from scratch again.

yeah...if you know its going to take a while to encode NEVER just click burn...always save as disk image then you have it nice and safe for as long as you want

In the Toast Preferences, set the Roxio Converted Items to Never delete.
