Question

:) Hallo,

As a new memberI would like to ask if there is a workaround,to place 2 effects, being; selenium and sharpen, under the same selected clip on the timeline in VW ver 7.1.1.189. I have tried, but one replaces the other.

Thankyou in advance for any tips

You can try putting one effect on the clips internal effects track and the second on the external track. To place a clip on the internal track, double click on the clip from the timeline view. When the internal tracks open, place the effect on the effects track and adjust as desired. Close the internal track and then place the second effect on the external track and adjusted as desired. You will have to adjust the duration of the external track effect to display with the single clip.

Hope that helps.

Hallo Merv,

I am obliged to you for the tip as it worked as you said_I wonder if you know of a tip to visually identify which clips in an hour long production, being about 70 clips carry effects, on the timeline as I cannot remember and have to open each time in internal track to verify.

Unfortunately, I haven't found a way to do that.

Now you could add a some 'text' to the internal tracks that you added an effect or overlay to.

For example, you could put a small text 'o' to the internal track of the clip that you added an overlay to and an 'e' to the ones you have an effect on.

If you put it in the corners - out of the 'tv safe' area, it probably won't show in the final production.

I'd probably go back and remove the text before the final burn, but that would be easier than having to constantly open the internal track as you edit.

An alternative to ml's suggestion would be to switch to the Storyline view. In that view, each clip that contains a video effect will have a little Star on the bottom tab. Click on that clip, switch back to the timeline view and double click the clip to get to the internal tracks and the corresponding video effect.

I do not have Version 7.5 installed right now so I cannot check if the above is 100% accurate. But I believe I remember it working that way.

Hope that helps.

Thanks, Merv. I'd forgotten about that Star on each clip in the Storyline view.

Text appears as an abc icon, overlays as a piece of paper and effects as a star. (They look like the icons you click on to make the additions appear in the media selector.)

Editing the internal track is easy. Using your mouse, right click on the clip and select Edit\ (effect, overlay, text, etc.)

If you have items applied to the external tracks, they will appear on a tab below the storyline (Storyboard view) on the left hand side. For those, you have to switch to the Timeline View to edit them.

Thanks for confirming that, ml. Not having V7.X installed at the moment, I had to rely on this aged memory of mine. :)

Your memory is better than mine.

Let me clarify the advice for the poster because after rereading it, I was confused. :)

In the STORYLINE view, you will see the icons on the video clips/scenes. (all 70 of them) The icons that are on the clips show whether you've added text, overlays or effects to the INTERNAL tract.

If you right click on a clip in the STORYLINE view, and choose Edit\.....(overlay,text,effect), you will be editing the INTERNAL track.

To edit the external track, you have to be in the TIMELINE view.

(Whew. Hope that wasn't more confusing.)
